Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 at 8:03 am in Raiders, NFL.

It was a status quo week for the Raider offense–not shut out, not abysmal, but not close to good, either.
I guess, matched against Denver, the NFL’s No. 1 points defense, anything close to non-negative yardage and a 0 on the scoreboard is good. I predicted a shut out loss, so there you go.
Thirteen points (a TD set up by an INT) and a couple of decent FG drives, by that standard, is outstanding. They’re at KC this Sunday…

To the statistical update:
–The 13-point burst, their fourth-highest total of the season, lifts the Raiders to the 105-point mark and ups their average score to 11.7 (from 11.5).
It’s still the lowest total in the NFL, of course, slightly behind Tampa Bay, which scored 10 on Monday night and is at 112.
At this pace, the Raiders will score 187 points this season. That keeps them within reach of the lowest total in a 16-game season, set by the 1998 Eagles, who scored 161 and averaged 10.1.
For example, if the Raiders get shut out in KC, that’d give them a 10.5 point average through 10 games, dangerously close to the record pace.
Plus if Aaron Brooks supplants Andrew Walter at QB this week because of Walter’s pointed offensive commentary, then there’s even more possibility of a 0 Sunday.
I repeat from last week: The fewest points the Raiders have ever scored in a season is 213, which came in 1962 in 14 games, which means this Raider offense could easily be the least proficient in franchise history.
For frame of reference: Last year, the Raiders scored 290. The woeful 49er offense scored 239 last year. In the strike-shortened nine-game schedule in 1982, the Raiders scored 260.
In the Raiders 2002 Super Bowl-berth season, they scored 450.

* Meanwhile, on the sack total: The Raiders were sacked three times by the Broncos, which gives them an NFL-leading 47 times sacked but lowers their average to 5.2 a game.
That’s a pace for 83.5 sacks in the season, which is far from the legendary record of 104 given up by the 1986 Eagles.
So 104 now is basically out of reach unless Brooks or Walter or both go down 10 times at Arrowhead.
However, the 2006 Raiders remain on pace to register the second-worst sack total ever, which is the 78 allowed by Arizona in 1997.

There it is. The Raiders’ 13 points and only three sacks was actually, for them, an above-average offensive performance. Whew.

we are in my lifetime. And we are the most underachieving offense in the history of sports. How an OC doesnt get fired in light of this? i dont know.

In terms of NFL history, I don't think so, but its probably in the top 10 or even in the top 5. As for the raiders org, it is definitely the worst. Not even Bungals', White's and Turdner's were as incompetent.

Worst Raiders offence ever, worst raiders OL ever.

That '98 Eagles team could at least run the ball...

Worst ever? Hard to say... Most inept and simplistic I've ever seen from a Raiders team...

JMO, but it's generally not a real good sign when in both years we've run it that the QB's(Hoss, Walter) and WR's(Timmah, Porter, Moss) have ripped it's basic concept and in turn it's designer... That to me is more telling than anything a fan can see or decipher... The sooner we get in front of this and conclude that it just hasn't been O-line or QB friendly both times Walsh has trotted it out, the sooner we can get back on the road to respectibility IMO...

I hope we don't do something stupid like bring Walsh back, I don't think I could take another year of this. We've made huge strides on the defensive side of the ball, any offense with a sembance of a heartbeat could have us sniffing the playoffs.

FWIW, Shell is not immune from any blame here either. He hand picked this nitwit and he needs to share in some of the blame game.

Those '76 Bucs got shut out 5 times, scored 125 points in 14 games and ranked dead last in every offensive category.

Hear hear!

I think it's hilarious how many pundits and experts and fans whine about Al Davis being too involved in the coaching, but then when he's not involved, this is what we wind up with?

It was Al Davis who kept Rob Ryan, who has been a shining star this year. It was not Al Davis who picked Tom Walsh, who has been the bane of our existence.

Was that they're first year?

Yep -- '76 was Tampa's first year in the league long with the might Seahags.

First, Tim Kawakami is a douche bag and always has been.

Second, yes, the Raiders are on their way to being one of the worst offenses in post-merger history.
