Anyone else starting to get worried about Russell?

Remember when we used to bitch and moan about Gallery not being used right by the coaching staff, and then when he was put there, everyone was like, 'Shit, maybe Norv was RIGHT — this dude sucks.'

And then another coach moved him back to guard.

Moral of the story: the coach(es) saw things in practice that let them know the guy wasn't ready.

Anyone else concerned that maybe Kiff and others are seeing things in practice that may indicate that the guy just isn't ready, or even worse, like Gallery, he may just not have what it takes?

I know it's maybe premature, but the thought occurred to me today...

Maybe there ain't no magic show to pull the curtain on after all.

Tuna was on the radio yesterday before the game and had the best line.... Said something is wrong with this kid that the Raiders aren't telling anybody about if he can't get on even get in the game on a situational basis.

A lot of people downplay it, but it all goes back to the holdout... The 10-12 daily hours of intense football on the practice field and classrooms at Napa... The daily breakdown with coaches of every practice snap and every read he would have made... The live snaps and contact he would have seen in preseason games... There is just no way to play catchup on that with the weekly schedule a team has in-season and just no way you can duplicate the game speed and intensity in practices...


When he gets in I expect him to be late with a lot of his throws and to stare down receivers and free safeties... I just don't think you can really digest even a partial playbook as a rookie until you actually are in live game situations and adapting to blitz reads and mixed coverages... There's only so much you can accomplish wearing a red jersey and working in the mostly 7 on 7's and 9 on 7's you tend to see in most practices...

Isn't the kid 21 years old? He was something of a raw prospect, then misses 5-6 weeks of intense study.

The rest of the team seems to be just settling alittle, with probably our best game of the season last week... I mean, he's not ready, the rest of the offense isn't ready... I don't see the big deal.

Kinda unfortunate that we have this murderer's row of opponents comming up... I really do trust Kiffs judgement here. Infact I kinda think it shows some sack that he hasn't bent to all the pressure to play him.

If he sits for eight weeks next year too, he's still the youngest starter in the league. Not Leinart, Beck, Brennan, Alex Smith, Brohm, Cutler, Matt Ryan, Woodson, Young, Clemens, Shaub or Jackson.

I don't see many players in that list with his combination of size, mobility, arm strength, accuracy and touch.

If he has to learn for an extra 12 months because he missed all of camp, so be it.

Im not worried one bit, and I can say that with a straight face.

How do you suppose he'd react if anyone said anything along those same lines about HIS team or HIS players when he was a coach? Especially someone who hasn't been but to one practice. Especially about a player who has every reason in the world not to be ready for pro football (came out as a junior; only started 2 years in college; missed all of preseason; plays intensely demanding position).

Parcells doesn't know schit about the situation. He's just doing, as a member of the media, the same schit he abhorred in the media as a coach.

Actually his track record with young qb's hasn't been the greatest. He's good with vets, but has never gave love to rookie qb's. He knows football. But I'd be far away from calling him a qb guru. Especially not with situations he's nowhere close to getting inside info on. Talking off the top of your head is not a crime, but it does kill your credibility on a matter that requires you to know what you're talking about before building smoke.

Nice.... after seeing how 1 sided that contract was and after seeing that Russell accepted the same offer that was on the table in July and after realizing how greeeeeen Russell's nube agents really were.... the thought crossed my mind that perhaps Russell helped push his agents to sandbag the negotiation process until the start of the season in part to ensure he doesn't see the field this year. The thought crossed my mind only because Russell has always come across as such a uber-competitive guy and only because he was so outspoken during the holdout about how he needed to get to camp and only because of those reports of how much he really wanted to come play for this organization....


That said, I'm not expecting the guy to come out starting under center.... but with the way the season has progressed and the fact that the coaches have made it clear that they do have the hope of putting Russell in on a situational basis, every week that passes with him doing nothing only gets us closer to the obvious.
