Anyone believe contract will play any role in #1?

You know, how we've seen some franchises negotiate with more than one player trying to get a contract done... apparently letting that decide the direction of the franchise(a total loser move IMO)... I believe the Texans played this game with Bush last season.

I'm not real sure how Al would play this. I don't think it's any secret that he's not sitting on a pile a cash, but there's no doubt that he's all about football and will pay any price to get what he wants out there... if he's able.

You guys think this'll play a role in our decision at all, and if it does, would it piss you off?

If history is any indicator: You bet your ass contract will play a role in who's selected #1.

Whoever is selected #1 will get the biggest contract, his agent will see to that. If we draft someone who isn't worthy of being paid the biggest contract, I'll be pissed.

I think Houston operated on a signability premise. No matter who they took, they were going to pay top dollar. They found the more willing dance partner as well as the guy who "made more sense" as far as their roster went.

I agree with Rupert. I believe that not being tremendously active (ie; paying too much) with free agent players will benefit the Raiders in the long run. They'll have more cap money and will be able to pay their picks.

I never lose sleep over whether or not the Raiders will sign their first picks. For one, I don't believe that Al Davis would allow the Raiders to go through the public ugliness of drafting a player who doesn't want to play for the Raiders. Therefore, I think he'll be damn certain that the player will sign. I think it's less an issue of paying what he wants for a player than it is avoiding any more negativity toward his great and storied team. ;)

I thought there was a "pool" of money strictly designated to sign rookies that didn't necessarily count against the cap? I'm not 100%.

Broncos | Team reportedly tried to acquire No. 2 pick in draft
Sat, 17 Mar 2007 07:08:21 -0700

Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports the Detroit Lions have held preliminary discussions with the Denver Broncos regarding the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft in the last month, league sources have confirmed. According to sources, the Lions asked for multiple draft picks that included the Broncos' No. 21 selection. The Broncos considered the asking price too high and trade discussions have stopped. The team, however, has been trying to deal their No. 21 overall pick.

Calvin Johnson no doubt. This would be bad.

Happy St. Patty's Day.

Actually, the scuttlebutt I've been hearing is that Shanahan is in love with Adrian Peterson. To me, Peterson in Bronco colors would be a million times worse than Calvin Johnson.

Yea, I've been hearing the same thing for a month or so, and I do not want to see Peterson in Denver (of course I don't want to see Calvin Johnson either). Can you imagine facing LT, LJ and AP each twice per season?

That said, expecting to move up from #21 to #2 without the asking price being "too high" is pretty stupid. That's a hell of a jump. The team is picking at #2 for a reason. If they're going to trade out (to #21, no less) and not get a potential superstar, you'd better believe that somebody is going to have to offer up the moon and stars...

The Broncos just handed Henry $12 million guaranteed. No way does it make sense for them to trade what would probably be their 4 day 1 picks this year plus some from next year to select a RB at #2 that would command $25+ million in guaranteed money. Thing is Millen wants to trade down but he still needs to get an impact player(s) in order to save his job so I doubt he moves to far down in the 1st. I bet his goal is to move down 3 to 5 spots or so and still get one of those defensive ends. In order for that tampa-2 to work they need to get more pressure with their front 4.

Though personally, I agree that it's got to be for Calvin Johnson.

They just invested their future in Jay Cutler. Rod Smith is 100 years old, Brandon Marshall is totally unproven and Javon Walker is still just a year removed from major knee surgery, right?

Let's just NO to Denver drafting any of the following:

Calvin Johnson
Adrian Petersen
Joe Thomas
Alan Branch

Did I miss any?

Carriker
Marshawn Lynch

Meh.. this is why draft day is go great (the promise of new talent for our team) and so nerve wracking (that it is the same for our rivals). Hoping that we pick guys who WILL translate to the NFL and become stars while simultaneously hoping that the guys I wanted to badly for MY team now totally bomb and suck ass in the NFL because they got drafted by the Broncos or Chefs.

Oddity: I still don't give a shit about the Chargers. *shrug*

I think that the Chargers draft well but i usually dont fel the same away about the Bronco's and Chiefs. If they get up to #2 ill be shaking in my boots. Detriot wants Al Wilson+ 2 firsts apparently.
