Carr Revs Up for 2007
June 28, 2007
Since joining the Silver and Black, Carr has become the Raiders’ all-time leader in kickoff returns with a total of 142 for 3,514 yards.
Raiders CB Chris Carr. has been a part of the Silver and Black for the past two seasons. In 2005, Carr signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent. At Boise State, Carr was a four-year letter winner, who finished as the NCAA’s active career leader in average yardage per punt return. Since joining the Silver and Black, Carr has become the Raiders’ all-time leader in kickoff returns with a total of 142 for 3,514 yards. A highlight from this past season, Carr recorded his first touchdown with the Silver and Black by returning an interception off Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger 100 yards for a touchdown. It will be interesting to see what Carr will bring with him to training camp and the upcoming season.
Carr’s speed has helped his football career immensely. His quickness and defensive skills have allowed him to become a fundamental component of the team. In each season, Carr tries to bring something different to the Raiders.
According to Carr, he believes that his defensive skills are an asset to the team. Carr affirmed, “I can play corner, I can play safety, I can play the nickel back. They can use me in all those things. I can blitz. I can sack the quarterback. I think I can do a lot of things defensively that can help out our team. Of course, on the punt returns and kick returns, I think I can get the offense in good field position and I think I can score some touchdowns.”
Not only has Carr’s defensive abilities allowed him to be a successful cornerback, but his competitive nature has also helped him achieve accomplishments with the Raiders. Competition only seems to make Carr a stronger and better player, especially since Head Coach Lane Kiffin is not guaranteeing a starting position for anyone on the team this season.
“Me personally, I compete all the time. I just want to play well. I never want to mess up. I never want someone to get the best of me. To me its good, I’m used to it already. As a team, I think it is really good that everyone comes out here and works hard,” explained Carr on his competitive nature.
Aside from personal growth, Carr’s primary goal for the approaching season is for the Raiders to become a Championship team. He believes that the Raiders have the ability. According to Carr, not only do the Raiders have the talent and the coaching, but they have the drive to succeed as well. Carr states, “I want to be a Championship team. We have all the talent. We have the coaching. We should be a Championship-caliber team.”
As the upcoming season approaches, it is anticipated that Carr will be focused on achieving his main goal. Aside from that, Carr will be working on improving his defensive skills. It will be exciting to see what this season has in store for Carr. Overall, it would appear that Carr is well on his way to helping the team achieve that goal.
