ESPN's John Clayton reports the Raiders intend to draft Calvin Johnson with the No. 1 pick if the Dolphins acquire Trent Green from Kansas City.

Clayton's theory is that the whole top part of the draft depends on the future of Trent Green. If Green goes to Miami, Daunte Culpepper will be cut and Oakland would then sign him. Clayton says if a Green trade can't be worked out, the Raiders will be forced to draft JaMarcus Russell.

I knew this one would make the rounds.

So today, I've seen an article by PFT saying we've narrowed it down to Russell and Johnson;

I've seen another article by J-Mac stating its narrowed to Russell and Quinn and Johnson is most likely out of the running;

I've also seen guys on the NFLN say that the Raiders are 75% sure that Russell is the pick;

And KFFL is reporting that Davis want's Russell, Kiffin and Knapp want Quinn and the scouting dept. wants Johnson...

This all leads me to believe that Joe Thomas will be the first pick.

Its all bunk and smokescreens, man. Like Socal said, Clayton told everyone that James Lofton was going to be our next HC, and it was all but official...

Could happen. How about trade down and take someone like Gains Adams, followed up with a shit load of picks to take dudes like Marshawn Lynch, Drew Stanton and Dewayne Jarrett?

I'm no closer to knowing what the Raiders will do this Saturday than I was 4 months ago !!!! Make the Bad Man Go Away.

I could litterally see any scenario play out at this point. Only blind luck will guess our draft stategy - but it WILL be interesting.....

I dont think Culpepper affects what we do in the draft or trent Green. Two washed up Qb's who dont have much of a future... I dont think we really give a shit. If we want another QB to take the starting job then we shoudl draft one. If not run A.Walter to Cj unitl the fucking wheels fall off. Call Tim Rattay's phone and Troy Smith's/Zambransky's name Rnd6...

Of all the lesser regarded QB's, I can't help but like this Zabransky kid.

I havent heard great things but he is fast and he seems like a leader and a winner. I heard his arm is ehh. I also heard he is really fast but couldnt shake a telephone pole. If we dont draft a Qb #1 overall we might still have to draft one later.

Dude, I'm telling you. I'm going to win massive points with my Boise-State Draft Pickem lineup. LOL.

(Al will never draft a noodle arm QB, would he?)

IMO we have to take CJ. There are so many teams drooling over him we could cut a monster deal after we draft him.

Or we could just keep him and give our QB a big-time weapon. My personal preference.

That rumor was making the rounds on Tampa Sportstalk this am. How the fugg do these pundits know what Al is going to do even if we sign Pep? There's no guarantee the guy can ever come back at 100%. I guess Miami is really hot for Quinn and may trade up if they can get Green in here for a year or two until BQ's ready to go. KC asking price may be the monkey wrench.

I am good with this as long as we get McCown to complete with Culpepper I wouldn't hand him the job. I went to the Phins & Steelers game last year and he looked bad.....looks like he second guesses himself too much to me. Let him Walter and McCown compete with a CJ, JP and RC catching the ball I would be ok with that depending the rest of our draft picks

Clayton's such a buffoon. It's like he's never covered the Raiders in his life by what he writes/reports.

When has Al ever let another team dictate what he's going to do, especially as it relates to draft strategy? Riiiiiight, Al's sitting up in his office frantically pacing wondering what Miami is going to do about their QB situation. Methinks Pointdexter's bow tie is just a smidge too tight.

For real. I wouldn't have believed this if Ihadn't seen him myself.

So the entire draft, the top pick, and essentially, the way the Raiders choose to rebuild their team hinges on the ability for Miami and KC to arrange a swap for a banged up QB on the wrong side of 35, so we can acquire a washed up QB, that hasn't been good in 3 years.

IS JOHN CLAYTON NUTS?

Sorry, John. We know you just got some fancy-shmancy lifetime achievement award from the PFWA, so we probably should play nice.

But you also should be glad that the voters cast their ballots before they got an earful of your theory that Trent Green is somehow the key to the 2007 draft.

We hadn't heard about this specific thought process until the Poobah's cousin Josh called this morning and said, "Is John Clayton on drugs?"

"Not that I know of," was the response. But after Josh explained Clayton's belief that the Raiders will take receiver Calvin Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick if the Chiefs trade Green to the Dolphins, I asked Josh: "Is John Clayton on drugs?"

Clayton's hypothesis is that, if the Chiefs trade Green to the Dolphins before the draft, the Dolphins will eventually cut Daunte Culpepper. With Daunte Culpepper likely to be on the market, Raiders owner Al Davis then will decide that he doesn't need to take quarterback JaMarcus Russell with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

But even though many in the media are writing off the ability of Davis to make good decisions in light of his age and health, we think that his mind is as sharp as it ever was. Though we believe that the Raiders should take Johnson, the possible ability to sign a potentially washed-up quarterback with limited mobility will be enough to get the Raiders not to take Russell.

The biggest flaw in Clayton's argument is that he assumes that if Green isn't traded to the Fins by the end of the week, Culpepper won't be cut (signed) by the Raiders before the start of the season. But there's no way that the Chiefs will keep Green at his $7.2 million salary, and the Fins won't sign Green and keep Culpepper at $5.5 million. So even if the Fins don't get Green by Saturday, it's a safe bet that they eventually will -- and that Culpepper eventually will be available.

We also think that Clayton's argument presumes that the Chiefs are too stupid to realize that they should delay the trade of Trent Green until after the Raiders exercise the No. 1 overall pick. With the Dolphins selecting at No. 9 and the Chiefs twiddling their thumbs until No. 23, there will be plenty of time on Saturday afternoon to get the deal done, if the Chiefs hope to keep Davis from concluding that he should take Johnson because he's got a chance to get Culpepper.

The bottom line, then, is that the question of whether the Raiders take Johnson over Russell or Russell over Johnson has nothing at all to do with whether Trent Green gets traded to the Dolphins before Saturday at noon.

I'm not happy until I hear some Adrian Peterson rumors.

Signing Rhodes stuck a pin in that balloon though,..... bastards.
