With all the roster talk going on right now, added to all the free time I have right now, I took it upon myself to put together an all-time Raiders roster.

What changes would you make?

Here are the rules/terms: The idea is to pick a player when he was in his prime. But they can only play for the Raiders when they were Raiders. For instance, you could list Eric Dickerson for the year he had under 800 yards rushing for the Raiders, but it wouldn't be the Dickerson who racked up 2,100+. 53 active, 8 practice squad members.

Anyway, after a lot of thinking and research, here's my team.

Now for some explanation/analysis.

First off, I started watching in 1997, so maybe I'm biased toward more recent players, and am off a bit on the past.

But I go with Gannon simply because I think he was more accurate and consistent than Stabler, and also more mobile.

I have Kaufman in there to return kicks.

Thought about a Steve Smith or Jon Ritchie-type at FB just for pure blocking but decided to put the better overall players.

I had some trouble with the backup guards; maybe you guys can help me out with that.

At DT I also had some issues. I thought about Matuszak but I don't know enough about him, honestly. People may cringe at McGlockton and Russell on there together but when they wanted to play there were hardly any better. And with all these players around them they could shine.

Yes, Morrison at MLB. :p I thought about Biekert. I'm probably missing some people there.

Kicker, well ... we haven't really had all that awesome of kickers through the years.

The practice squad was tough, too, having to leave off guys like Matuszak, Bill Pickel, Ben Davidson, Clarence Davis, James Lofton, Lechler, Hewritt Dixon, Kenny King, Harry Schuh, etc. ...

Let the bitching begin. :D

Okay. :)

I don't care how it is rationalized... there's no way in hell that either Morrison or Asomugha have any right to be mentioned on that list at this point. While I'm hopeful that they'll end up there, they'd probably tell you themselves that they haven't earned it yet.

Oh, and I'd replace Napolean Kaufman with Michael Bush. ;)

:p Smartass.

I think Asomugha has a legitimate claim, at least as far as last year. Pro Bowl. People from Chad Johnson to Deion Sanders singing his praises. All the interceptions. Dr. Z's All-Pro team. The best thing to see all of last year. :)

Maybe I'm reaching with Kirk, but him too, just in terms of physical assets and commitment to the game, I think he has a place. Like I said, though, who would you have instead? Biekert? Dan Conners? Jack Squirek? Monte Johnson? Willie Hall? Bob Nelson? I didn't see a lot of those guys play and you won't see anything on them in clips or reels.

As far as corner... Skip Thomas? Eric Allen?

Give me Plunkett as the starter. Stats be damned, the guy got us two. :D

I also would have Cliff start opposite Fred or Tim. Speed guy with a possession guy. Tim and Fred starting really lacks a little speed imo. Cliff stretches the field.
