Al Davis Details "The Jon Gruden Trade"

Things sure appear to have been better in those days. But I guess every generation says that.

Is it like a battered wife syndrome thing?

He fuckin sucked at his job my entire life. I've been told he was good in the 60s or some shit though.

Then how did you, and more importantly, WHY, did you become a Raider fan?

I guess you are too young to remember the fantastic 1976 season. But the first Wild Card team to win a SB, and making Rozelle hand Al the trophy while he was suing the league. The Marcus Allen reverse field run, the Jack Squirek interception in the '83 SB. You know nothing of that? As late as 1990, the Raiders were the class of the AFC West and a playoff contender.

Get off my lawn.

I wonder if Al really wore all the rings like that?... looked weird :pound:

he always had his particular jewelry ensemble on, with the "Al" braclett supposedly a gift from Jimmy "The Greek", that bigass diamond pinky ring and perhaps his SB XVIII ring... pretty classy really for all that bling.

You say 1990, and I think "yeah, but that was like 15 years ago", and now I need to go take a nap :(

In all reality Al was just too damn stubborn even before he lost it.

Traded Stabler. The whole Marcus Bo thing. And of course Mark Fucking Wilson.

I mean a lot of these guys have huge egos. It isn't just Al. But WTF. Is it better to be successful or to be right?

Nevermind. It's rhetorical.

Well, the team won the Super Bowl right after trading Stabler (even beat him in the playoffs) and he declined rapidly. That move worked out.

Yes it worked. Then.

Just like all the reclamation projects. Plunkett. Matuszak. Alzado. In the beginning most of them worked.

Then later not so much.Fat Fuck Sapp. Piece of Shit Moss. Seymour. The dumbass who got rolled at that Vegas hotel.

Ugh.

Meanwhile, this may or may not be clear evidence that Chucky has finally jumped the shark:

"We're excited to announce that American football legend, Jon Gruden, will work with us as an advisor...Gruden will help us improve our organization in every aspect. He already started to work with our coaching staff.

Milano Seamen,
European League of Football"
