OK, I'm over the loss to Cleveland.

I'm now trying to figure out what it is I'm looking for on Suday in the way of improvement.

First, I want to see a win. That would be an improvement.

To do that here is what I think has to happen on offense:

The OL has to keep getting a little better. Boothe did a nice job at RG I thought. Gallery had a better game even with his holding penalty. Sims was static. Grove not too bad (for him). Walker? That a-hole is the one who has to straighten up. So I look for Walker to play better and the others to improve marginally.

Jordan and Fargas need another good game to keep the momentum going in the running game. A lot depends on the OL but damn it LaMont, hit the damn hole fast. Stop with the dancing.

WR's -- Randy, pull your head out and play every down like it was your last. Walter and Moss are not on the same page yet. I hope they had a good week of practice and can shows some synergism on Sunday. We need a couple of big plays form that duo. Start Jerry Porter or Curry. Whitted is not doing us any favors out there. He's just not that good to be in the starting lineup.

And finally, special teams -- STF was that? Get you're shit together. KO returns are especially troubling as we're last in the league in that category. That has to be fixed in order for us to win Sunday.

And let's get a couple of turnovers.

That outgh to do it.

Kool Aid time.

I think this is the week we suprise some people and light it up, big time. Just a gut feeling, not entirely sure why.. I just think we're due for a big week, and this is it. The plays have been there to be made and the calls have been hugely improved by our coaching staff (less the non-challenge), and I expect this week to be yet another step forward in improvement. That being said, what killed us last week was total lack of execution (see also: Special Teams Coverage). We have actually seen consistent improvement from week to week, as badly as we've been collectively been playing. I'm making an assumption based on that steady improvement that we'll catch the catchable balls and we'll block the blockable blocks and things will open up for us. We saw a spark of what this team could be last week in the first half, and I think we're on the verge of putting it together for an entire game against what is a young and relatively untalented Niner squad.

Drink up! Not even as close as the score would indicate:

Well if your defense is good enough, just knock Smith on his ass all day and you'll win!! :)

Randy can't be happy about the way his stats are looking and SF's secondary is just to weak for him not to have a huge day. They just don't have the personnel to double-team Moss and still provide adequate coverage for the rest of the field IMO. Besides, being one TD shy of one-hundred for his career should provide some extra motivation.

On defense, we need to stick Huff on Eric Johnson and stack the line against the run.

On a side note, Vernon Davis has been ruled "out" for Sunday's game. That's another plus on our side.

Meh... Offensively I'll be pretty happy if we can keep the tempo between snaps at a good pace and manage to keep Walter upright and healthy... Estatic if we actually expand the passing tree beyond the 8 and 9 routes we send Whitted and Moss on regularly...

Getting Walter firmly entrenched as the starter is just as important as posting a dubya at this point IMO... The last thing I want to see is us switching back and forth between Walter and Brooks all year... Let Walter take his lumps and get almost a full season of snaps under his belt... I more or less am looking at it as being in a similar situation as Seattle was in year one with Hassleback in 2001... They let him play though the growing pains and mistakes even as he struggled a good portion of the year... That year of picking himself off the ground helped him earn his teammates respect and establish him as a leader...

I'm worried about the O-line as Frisco runs the same kind of bait and switch 34 defense that has left our bunch blocking air on stunts far too often... Manny Lawson has just the kind of off the edge speed that will give Langston fits... Hell, Oprah probably has off the edge speed that would bother Leadfoot Langston...

Defensively, I think Gore will get his as he's been pretty productive when he's not putting the ball on the ground and killing my fantasy team... I'd try and get an early strip on him since he really looked like it was in his head in the KC game.... If we can keep him from hanging a Tomlinson type performance against us, we should be fine even though I'd feel better if Fabs were able to go and match up against Antonio Bryant... I've been very impressed by Bryant this year, he's finally taking steps to become a legit #1 WR....

Alex Smith has looked very good when the Niners were moving him out of the pocket ala Jake Plummer, but in true Norv Turner fashion, they stopped doing it... I think KC learned a little from what they saw Philly do in the first half of their game vs SF... The D-line made a concentrated effort to stay in their gaps and they just blitzed on just about every snap... If I'm not mistaken, KC's LB and secondary posted 4 or 5 sacks this past week... Their RT also seemed to have alot of problems with Tamba Hali, so Burgess should have a big game...

Oh for Christ's sakes. Excellent post right out of the box. Nice HBoy. REP!!!!!

IMO, this is a game of pride for Randy Moss. Does he really want his legacy to read that he got shut down by two of the worst secondaries in history on back to back weeks? My guess is no. All its going to take is one big play and then I think things will start to snowball. The defense begins to overplay to Randy's side and it opens up the middle, then the running game and so on.

On defense, we need to slow down Gore and go for the strip everytime he touches the ball. The more he thinks about it the better. Keep Antonio Bryant from making the big plays. He single handedly took out the Rams in the one game I watched them play. Two big plays was enough.

Obviously, on ST's we need to get our act together in coverage. We seemed to lose our agressiveness after Cooper's penalty on his early hit. Thank God our kickers can tackle. Jano might have future as a linebacker. I think Carr's ready to break one also. He was one missed block away on a kickoff (Foschi on the whiff) return for a TD against the brownies.

Game of pride for Randy Moss? How do you figure that?....And don't get me wrong...I always liked Moss...until now...but with his attitude of 'not being concerned about football right now'....I don't see him caring at all how he plays this week.

And hawaiianboy...yes, the KC defense sacked Smith 5 times...and had a fumble recovery...actually 2, but 1 was taken away due to a penalty...and they also had an interception.

My first post ever, and it previews this clash of the titans? Ah well, gotta start somewhere. I'll say beforehand that what I'm looking for hasn't changed since week 1, and I'm not looking for anything on a week-to-week basis. It's improvement in general, and evaluations of the youth.

Well, I'm with the general consensus that Aaron Brooks needs to take as long as possible to recover. Don't push yourself Aaron! Take as long as you need buddy! Heh. Once it became clear that this team had no playoff aspirations (Approx. the 2nd quarter of game 1), my biggest fear was that Walter would get no game time. It would haave seemed a waste, to not play the young QB. I wonder if this staff would have just played him. Having their hand forced this way was a good thing.

It all comes down to the O-line doesn't it? Gallery, Grove, McQuistan, Boothe....whoever, I just want to know by the end of the year who's a keeper and who isn't. Langston? Lost my religion on that boy. I think he's a slug with no explosion in the run game.

It's nice to see the youth and speed on the defensive side of the ball. Shame they don't get any help. I still think we need a replacement for Sapp at DT. Kelly's been a bit of a disappointment to say the least. I'll be keeping my eye on him all season.

Thanks to Bones and HBoy for the heads up on the site. Hope the new avatar isn't too disconcerting.

Nice take mass. Gotta echo your comments. At this point I have to see week-to-week improvement from this OL. As I mentioned Boothe has impressed. Maybe at some point McUgly is gonna man the RT spot. Dunno.

The avatar? I didn't recognize 'ya. Kinda set in my ways.

Welcome to the AFCWF.

Cool to see ya mass. You know, I got the impression the staff was going to find out what they had in Walter as soon as they could when they put him in to finish off the San Diego game.

When Tui started that game last year, the big guy had to dislike what he saw enough to not want to see any more. Then Walter got a few reps in week 1 and the big guy thought it wasn't much worse than Brooks. If both guys needed to get their feet under them, it's better to get a kid tuned up than a vet you've got little invested in.

So when Brooks went down after a couple plays in week 2, I thought it was fishy. When it was announced as a pulled pectoral muscle, I assumed it would drag on unless Walter looked really bad. So it's really no shock to see Walter getting more reps under center.

If the O-Line had become lights out and the QB was the only problem, Brooks might have been put right back in, and he'd have had a miraculous recovery from his "injury".

Walker looks like the worst thing going on the OL. McQuistan was struggling early too, but he's been given reps behind Walker in practice, so don't be surprised to see Walker come out late in a game with strained labia and need Midol and ultrasound treatments for a couple weeks.

Is that booger (or whatever his nickname was) from Bad News Bears in your avatar? I didn't know we had royalty in the house.

I want to keep seeing the D playing with a ton of fire, and the offense making strides with Walter at the helm.

A win would be nice too...

BTW: Nice lookin set up here...I think I'll pull out a chair and stay a while.:D

No doubt. The key will be sustaining a couple offensive drives and grinding a little more time off the clock to keep the defense from collapsing late in each half.

Nice to have you.

welcome to the site massraider and Raiderfan007!! :)

Tanner Boyle. The scrappiest shortstop to ever get sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds.

Sup, 007. Angel, I assume you're the same guy I spotted over at Crow's board. Rupert, hello (Is this an alias?? Do I know you? Come clean!!). Thanks all, hopefully we'll see some more of the other regulars around soon.

Back to football, slightly off-topic, kinda:

Watching Alex Smith play so much better this year, I can't help but root for him. I'm not from the Bay Area, so I never really hated the 49ers, aside from the bandwagoners.

Seeing unproven players get slammed before they have been given a chance always annoys me. There are few things more obnoxious than a regular guy, that happens to watch some football, yammer on about how So-and-So is a guaranteed bust. Rex Grossman too. I hope both of these guys play in multiple pro Bowls soon. He was the 1st pick in the draft, I know the underdog label doesn't fit like a Japanese condom (my HBoy impression there), but it's great seeing loudmouths proved incorrect. Anyone else hoping Reggie Bush turns into Michael Bennett and Mario turns into Bruce Smith? I am.

I think alot of us feared that Giggles would put up good enough numbers in a 4 or 5 win season that we'd be entering year three of Walter's career having no idea whether or not he's the Golden Child...

At the very least I'd like to see Walter perform well enough that we don't have to hear the draftniks parrot on and on about us passing on Matt Leinart all offseason...

Man. Hear, hear. Poor Leinart. I wish him nothing but the worst, just because I don't want to hear it if he turns into a stud.

Thanks for the welcome Rupert and Angel.

I recognize Angel from a board or two somewhere along the way, and Im sure its a solid crew over here, although the mod is a bit crazy... ;)

Nice to see some faces I recognize, and Im pumped for the San Fran game.

P.S its Thanksgiving weekend up here in Canada, so I get to eat Turkey all weekend long... I love it!
