Once JR signs, we still had 8 draft picks make the team.

Russell, Miller, Henderson, Higgins, Bush, Bowie, Richardson and O'Neil.

Thats among the best in the NFL, giving a quick scan of who got cut etc.

I am discouraged about giving up on the 65th overall pick so quickly, but in the end, if Ryan and Millard saw more in Richardson, I'll side with them.

Heck, last year we only had five make the roster (Bing to IR and Morris to the PS IIRC)

We are ahead of the curve still, and although we didnt nail as many immediate starters such as Howard, Huff and McQuistan/Boothe, we are a better team, so I would expect the rookies to have to earn their spot over more time.

JMO.

I still like the Bush selection with our 4th, even if he doesn't play this season, I think it was well worth the risk for a guy who would have been a first rounder. I like the fact that we're not rushing him back either. I'm still pretty happy with our draft.

In his first year (1998) Gruden cut:
Eddie Anderson
Rob Frederickson
Terry Mcdaniel
Chester McGlockton

I can't help but think there's something going on with Quentin Moses off the field. It just doesn't make sense to cut a pass rusher like that.

The Draft That Almost Wasn't

The good thing about the Raiders having 11 draft picks this past April is that you can afford a mistake here and there. Thus, the fact that they effectively lost their first, third, sixth and ninth picks to contractual stubbornness, injury and just plain not good enough looks worse than it actually is.

Oh, JaMarcus Russell's holdout remains a disaster no matter how hard Raider fans may try to squint him out of their visions; I mean, did nobody do their homework here at all? Can it really be that neither side asees this year as even remotely valuable? The answer to both of those is clearly yes, and we will discover soon enough who ends up looking worse.

But defensive end Quentin Moses (No. 65 overall) was a bit of a stunner, given that he looked like a potential starter for awhile (he was eventually surpassed by Chris Clemons, who was out of the league last year, and fifth rounder Jay Richardson).

The other two, third rounder/running back Michael Bush, and fifth rounder/strng safety Eric Frampton, were less surprising. Bush is still healing from a catastrophic injury while at Louisville last year, and Frampton was just a fifth rounder that didn't project well -- happens all the time.
Still, when you look at the Raiders' cuts and you see they either didn't have or couldn't use their first, third, fourth and fifth draft picks, you still have to look harder to make it seem not so bad. And with the Raiders these days, not so bad is downright swell.

I have no problem taking a flyer on Bush. The Moses cut and the JR debacle are embarassing. I was impressed with Richardson, but I thought Clemons was outplayed over and over by Moses. Oh well, time will tell and I just dobt trust the Puppet Master at this point. It just smells like the Gruden situation all over again........and we haven't played a single down yet!
