With all the recent quotables from Porter and Moss about being 'happy' now.. and with the rumors swirling about picking up Carr for a 4th or 5th round pick.. and considering that we very well may be looking at Bush at #33...

Does that mean we go Joe Thomas at the top of the 1st, even if we don't trade down a slot or two?

Where did you hear about Moss being happy?

To be honest, we haven't heard anything from Moss Since November 18th of last year.

Randy Moss has reiterated his desire to be out of Oakland in 2007.

The Raiders won't require a large cap hit to cut Moss, but it would be silly if they don't explore dealing him first. Moss is now attributing his lull in production to his timing with Oakland's quarterbacks.

In early December he quit doing his weekly show and shut the hell up.

WR Randy Moss has reportedly stopped making his weekly appearance on a local radio show because of the controversy it caused.

Moss isn't doing anything on the field, but at least he's been quieter off it as well.

The report about Moss swearing at Kiffin was never reported:

Randy Moss is believed to have told Lane Kiffin that he wasn't interested in talking to his new coach when Kiffin tried to contact him this week.

The story, claiming Moss used "profane and pointed terms" in a brief phone conversation, was whispered about at the Senior Bowl and discussed on two ESPN Radio shows, but never reported. If true, this could be Moss' first step in forcing his way out of Oakland.

But was an unsubstantiated rumor in a dead week. It could have been "I don't want to talk to no mutherfuckers in the offseason! This is my time!" Which while unprofessional ain't that big of a deal for Moss.

I wouldn't rule out having Moss Porter Curry next year unless someone gives up the boat.

Kiffin did an interview and said he and Moss had a good convo... sorry i just heard it from a friend i dont have a link. It could be an attempt to raise trade value before the draft.

My 2ct's..

Unless Al get's major returns, Moss stays.

Porter "seems" happy. We're lookin' at J Russ # 1. ( I'm cool with that )

Let him learn for 5 or 6 games. If he don't win it outright. If he does , more's the better (southern slang).

Yah... no chance Moss will ever play for the Raiders again.

Not to be a black cloud or anything... but do you really think he's going to be ready to take the field after 5 or 6 games? From what I understand, this guy is about as raw as you're going to get from a QB coming out of the draft. I'm really expecting the Raiders to clipboard him for at least a year, probably two... maybe even three...

I dont think clip boarding him is all that bad of an idea for 1-2 years. The guy is 21 years old when most rookies are coming into the league at 23-24.

Hell, John Beck is gonna be a Weinke-esque 26 year old rookie, Stanton and Edwards will be 24, Kolb and Palmer will be 23 year old rookies, Quinn and Smith are both 1 year+ older...

Russell could end up being a 2 year NFL vet when he's just turning 23 years old...Not that I'm gauranteeing it'll help, but its something to look at.

Start him right away OR let him hold the clipboard for a 1-2 years? Those are typcially the two schools of thought. Neither is sure fire and it really depends on "where" the QB is at, maturity, team around him, etc.

If we do draft Russell (or Quinn), I hope we at least work him into games with 1-2 series and see how he develops from there.

Kiffin being from the college ranks might be more flexible in regard to rotating players than a staid old coach (Art Shell) would be IMO.

Besides, if Al doesn't think Russell is ready to play well in the first 1-2 years, I don't think he will draft him......

I agree and when I read the few places that say he's a "3rd round prospect", my interpretation is that's coming from the amount of grooming he's going to need before he's ready... a la Jason Taylor... Man I wish Russ never would have declared...

As much as I want to believe that... if Davis gets an earful of the propaganda that people like me are spreading about Davis never picking a QB early... I'll bet money that right there would be enough to influence him to take this guy... There was a time when Davis never looked outside the organization for a coach, let alone a college coach with absolutely 0 NFL experience. So much for that habit.

I don't buy the bullshit about Moss being happy.

However, for the sake of the discussion, let's assume that's true and we keep him and deal for Carr.

If that happens we take AP with the #1 and Zach Miller #2. We now have serious talent at every offensive skill position. Then you have to hope like hell that Carr can shake off the effects of his prolonged residence in the L column.

Be nice in this situation if we could trade down in the draft to #4 or so, get some extra picks and still land AP.

I don't know about rotating him in. We don't have a starter, if the reports about Brooks getting cut are true, which makes it a pretty hard sell to whatever veteran FA's might be interested in coming in. I'm betting he starts from day one if we draft him. After the mock camp competion that is...

Well, Kiffen said during his interview at the combine today that they are looking at an explosive play maker that could change the outcome of the game, so that right there tells me that its not Joe Thomas. Could be Johnson, could be Russell, could be Peterson....
