Alright, here's how it all works. You may submit an entry giving us your very best effort at prognosticating just what exactly Al Davis and our beloved Oakland Raiders will do this year in the 2007 Draft. Oakland has 10 picks this year including two 3rd, 5th, and 7th round selections. The points breakdown is as follows:
If you select the correct player in the exact round you will be awarded 15pts. + the bonus allotted for each round (see breakdown below in red).
If you select the correct player but not in the correct round, you will receive 10pts.
If you select the right position in the right round (i.e. the perennial TE pick in round 6) you will receive 5pts.
2006 Rule -- In an effort to avoid the situation we had in '05 with a 3-way tie I'm awarding bonuses per round for selecting the correct player in the exact round he was taken in. Round 1 - 1pt. bonus; Round 2 - 2pt. bonus; Round 3 - 4pt. bonus; Round 5- 6pt. bonus; Round 6 - 8pt. bonus; Round 7 - 10pt. bonus.
That means if you hit on a player in the 7th round, you will actually receive 25pts.!
Trades. The above scoring still applies, except to say that if you correctly predict a trade in terms of Oakland moving into or out of a round, you must still predict a player they will select. Regardless of the choice of player, if you correctly predict a trade using this outline, you will be awarded 5pts.
Now for some clarification regarding trades. You MUST hit the trade dead on or you're toast. For example, let's say you think Oakland wants to trade down with Tampa Bay at #4. You must first stick your neck out there by announcing said trade, then pick the player you think Oakland will nab at #4. Now, if you think they want JaMarcus Russell but end up with Brady Quinn, then you would receive 5pts. for correctly predicting a trade, and another 5 pts. for the correct position. Get it? Trades can give you a slight bonus, but they have killed many more Little Al wannabe's than they have helped, so proceed cautiously.
Hybrid Positions. Nobody has really tried to take advantage on this in the past, but I still want to address it. We all know who many of the prospects are this year and there are some legitimate "tweeners", see past years with Michael Huff, Manny Lawson, and Jimmy Williams, etc. Here's how we deal with it. I'll be using The Sporting News NFL Draft Preview (weekly edition, on news stands next week) and The Pro Football Weekly draft book (literally, this thing is a book) as our base for player positioning. Let's try to go by that, umkay? I just want to avoid entries that have 5 of 7 positions listed at OLB/DE or CB/S. Fair enough? The way I see it, there are 13 positional listings: QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, OT, OG, C, DE, DT, LB, CB, and S.
Also, one thing I noticed people tried to do 3 years ago was hit as many guys as they could at the top of the draft hoping to get 15 pts. and thinking that 2 of those combined would be enough. So we had entries that looked like this:
Round 1: Roy Williams, WR
Round 2: Ben Roethlisberger, QB
Round 3: Larry Fitzgerald, WR
Round 4: Robert Gallery, OT
And so on and so forth.
I'd really like to stick to the honor system here of "good faith" entries, ladies and gents.
The following is a current list of selections held by the Raiders, please cut and paste this format when submitting your entry for the sake of uniformity and presentation:
