2026 offseason roster/depth chart

You can see vintage games of Howie in his prime on youtube.

I'm not basing my opinion on pro bowls but by watching the game.
Ground breaking...

I'm not super invested in the discussion. I'm sure Howie was amazing. I also suspect that it's closer than the "not even close" crowd is making it out to be. But also, back to my first point, minimal to zero cares given.

Greg Townsend Intercepts John Elway screen passes !

Yeah Howie was the best of the 3 but great choices. It’s not Pat Sims and Jack Crawford

I dont think Howie set tones. Khalil Mack did.
Mack’s entering his 13th season. He’s played in 179 games with 177 starts. He has 113 sacks, 36 forced fumbles, 3 pics. So far he has 9 Pro Bowl honors, 3 AP 1st team, 1 DPofY. He has a 133 AV rating—0.75 per start (0.74 per game). Only thing he’s missing is playoff success (0-6).

Watched most of it. Newhouse went pretty granular, which is good.

Glaze needs to get better, consistently, with his technique. Has almost all the athletic tools, but like most OTs will struggle against elite speed from a wide nine spot.

Pete Carroll was incredibly bad, and his son set the O-line back years. Not like Glaze and JPJ and Rogers and Grant couldn't have benefitted from coaching. And all four guys are coachable. Have a feeling Dennison is going to seem like a miracle worker.

No matter how much the individual players improve -- and it's hard to imagine with a better than competent coach they will not -- it will matter less if they do not gel as a unit. That times time together on task. It's why Burford with the first is not so happy-making for me because I do not think he is more capable than Rogers.

Glaze is bad and the interior guys were even worse.

I seen Bech being used as he should be on one play. :koolaid:

Bowers is willing but he hasn't improved at all since he was drafted. He isn't a traditional inline TE but he can be a better blocker than what we are getting out of him.

Ted's been posting his film analysis for years cherry picking plays to fit his narrative and generate clicks. It's been absolute trash.
Bringing someone in that actually knows what he is talking about is a step in the right direction.

He’s good enough. That’s not his primary role in this offense.

Neither Maxx nor Townsend was better than Howie Long.
Howie played all over the D line, inside and out.
Opponents game plans were drawn up based on where Howie would be. Howie was double teamed most of the time.
Howie played the run and the pass with equal effect.
How was 6’-5” 275 lbs. and was quick as a cat off the snap.
Agreed.

Long was a disruptor in two positions. Look at the number of All Pros he had.

I have a picture on my wall with Howie Long on it, with a 1990 article from the great LA Times writer Jim Murray:

"No one took liberties with him. He was still 275 pounds, a boulder with legs. but what made Howie Long Howie Long was his ability to arrive at the ball like a guy jumping thougth a skylight."

That's incredibly hyperbolic. Two of the presumed starters weren't even on the team last season. Two more missed half to virtually all of the season injured. Miller is a 9 year veteran. Last year will have very little effect on the results of this coming season.

Matter of opinion. It is common for players to "take a big step forward" in year two. Glaze regressed, JPJ did not improve, Rogers and Grant were who they were in college. Second year in a row there was no continuity on who was playing where -- and it was not all injury. Meredith was given the starting C position with no competition, but JPJ had to "compete" for C and both G spots. There is no way anyone could argue that Stone Forsythe outplayed Grant, so not giving Grant even rotational reps (since line continuity didn't matter anyway) was a bad move. One of very many.

Burford is not a presumed starter, just the guy most familiar with the O and will be given an opportunity to win the job, just like Rogers and Zuhn. Only presumed starter among the new guys is Linderburg the C.

No matter how this roster shakes out, it isn't going to be the finished product. Spy and Kubiak have a plan. They didn't go into free agency simply looking for players who could help this year; they targeted young, ascending talent that can continue developing over the next several seasons.

I am a bit surprised by how much Spy was able to accomplish in a single offseason. The NFL is a win-now business, and I'm sure Kubiak will have his team ready to fight tooth and nail to win every game this season.

But the reality is that this version of the Raiders is only the first step in the organization's long-term build. They may not be ready to truly contend until 2028.

So if you see holes on the 2026 roster, it's probably because this organization is building toward something bigger and that process isn't finished yet.

For once, the Raiders actually have a plan.

I would hope they will be able to contend in 2027. If not, it probably means some of the guys drafted aren't panning out. Hell Pats went to the SB after 2 consecutive 3-14 seasons. Granted they play in a weaker division and had a cake schedule last year but it can be done.

Next offseason they can focus on getting a stud X receiver, some DT help. Hopefully Dennison sorts out the OL woes this season.

Possibly they will be ready in 2027 but when I said 'truly contend' I meant as a serious contender for the Super Bowl. It is one thing to fill in the holes, it is another to give it time to marinate and peak. That said I hope you are right and next year we see this team go on a serious run.
