Spillane and Hobbs were the only FA I wanted back, and as to Hobbs, I was being irrational. We’ll be saying Moerhig who in no time. Deablo needed a change of scenery. We chose Koonce over Chaisson, who is already onto his next team, and perhaps next year, Crawford over Koonce.

The Raiders have been masters of one year prove it deals and when the player proves his worth they let him walk. :wtf1:

Spillane was the only one I really wanted back. He had an outstanding year. Hobbs is always hurt. Didn't GB cut him already? Moehrig got paid way too much for being an average safety. . Deablo meh. I wish we kept Chaisson. I don't think they even tried to bring him back.

But he drafted some in 2nd round that should have been 3/4 rounders. Also obviously wasn’t good at putting a coaching staff together
 
Reggie wasn't great but he drafted circles around Senile Al, Mayock*, and Ziegler. TBD on Spytek.

What sunk his tenure were the 2016 and 2017 drafts when he spent six premium picks on defense and all six busted. Well, Ward is still in the league but he hasn't performed like a second round pick.

Look at it:

2016 draft
1st round: Karl Joseph (2016-2021)
2nd round: Jihad Ward (2016-present)
3rd round: Shilique Calhoun (2016-2020)

2017
1st round: Gareon Conley (2017-2019) - UFL stud
2nd round: Obi Melifonwu (2017-2018)
3rd round: Eddie Vanderdoes (2017-2019) - aka Vanderdidn't

Those picks, if spent correctly, should have been the nucleus of a revamped and top-tier defense. Maybe JDR, being Mark's hire, and KNJ had more of a say than warranted and the picks do have a Legion of Boom flavor to them. However, at the end of the day, Reggie was the GM.


*Mayock had a good 2019 - his grade dips due to Ferrell and TV Cart Abram in the first round - and most of those guys are still in the league or made an impact but his 2020 and 2021 drafts were horrible.
