2026 draft grades and notes

Hemby seems more like the 3rd down short yardage hammer. He can also take it to the house if he gets a lane.
Yeah. Seems like they all bring something to table. Except Laube who clearly was on team for special teams.

McCoy was picked 7 slots before Fins took Bell. That's not a huge jump
So, you would forgo McCoy, as I said? Hard to tell since you did not enter that into @007’s redraft.

No I would have used our 5th round pick to move up and still grabbed McCoy. I didn't put a lot of thought into it until now.

That doesn’t math. McCoy’s off the board at 4.101. Can’t get from 4.122 to 3.94 even with both 5th round picks.

Just taking Bell over Zuhn would work.

Not a comparison but Washington is like an extreme version of king Henry. Best way to stop Henry was before he hits that 2nd gear. Washington is similar.

I get it. Any time you name a hof type guy in any comparison - the hyperbole police make it into something ridiculous. Henry is just the guy that comes to mind first in the "stop his feet before he gets forward movement" is his kryptonite. It fits for other players too. But it's been his one weakness for years.

I think we all knew what you were trying to say. But Huggie Bear and Lactavious were more reasonable examples of the same player. Either way he’s ours now along with Hemby. I’m going to guess all three make the team

And all three backs give you somewhat different flavors. Could be fun.

Subjective grading:

What’s the point of all the pre-draft scouting, mocking, and big boards if you’re going to ignore them and just say nice things about picks? Below I pick on PFF, but most draft nicks not following Arif’s methodology do it.

PFF gave LAC’s draft a B. If you read PFF’s write-up of each player, you wonder why the grade was so low. Lol

How did PFF get there? Based on its big board, LAC drafted 3 UDFA prospects and barely stayed on PFF’s board in R5:
  • 4.117 —> UDFA (311)
  • 5.145 —> 7.232
  • 6.202 —> UDFA (429)
  • 6.206 —> UDFA (438)
That’s an “F” for half of LAC’s draft if PFF had any conviction in its own board. It’s the equivalent of all but wasting a comp 3rd (3.111) or 8.6% of LAC’s draft capital.

LAC also had two typical same-round, loss-of-value picks (total loss here the equivalent of the 3.86 pick)—one addressing a need in the midst of a position run, and another for a guy they apparently liked/targeted:
  • 2.63 OC Slaughter (PFF 90)
  • 4.105 WR B. Thompson (PFF 118)
Such (sadly) expected GM drafting deserves what grade if you grade on a curve? A “B” if you like the fit or “C” if you don’t? I’m not a fan of converting a relatively tall (6’5”) and thin (305 lb), albeit athletic, college OC to play OG in the NFL. Also, fuck midgets, although I like 4.27 speed and fit with OC Michael. To me, that’s at best a “C+” for 2 of LAC’s 8 picks and 27.8% of LAC’s draft capital.

LAC did not fuck up it’s 1st round pick and got value at safety, a position group that fell in this class:
  • 1.22 —> Edge Mesidor (PFF 20)
  • 5.131 —> S G. Smith (PFF 98)
Is doing your job as GM get you an “A” or “B” grade? Mesidor went within 10% of where PFF slotted him—that’s nothing to write home about. The 61 extra points in R5 (equivalent of a 4.117 pick) for a safety, while nice, was not only low hanging fruit, Arif’s work has shown that a “steal” (>15% from perceived pre-draft value) statistically means far less than a “reach” (<15% from perceived pre-draft value). Players fall for reasons, which led 32 GMs pass on a player. It only takes 1 GM to reach—far more likely an outlier. Together, I give those 2 of 8 picks (63.5% of LAC’s draft capital) a “B+.”
  • Weighted GPA: B-
  • Unweighted GPA: D+
Final Grade: C+

So Zamir White is a gonner?

Latavious had a great career for where he came from and where he was drafted.

Such a strange player. Big guy that ran like a small guy and went down with arm tackles.

Murray's career kind of proves that being good, not great, generates more dislike than being mediocre and quickly fading away.

Letting Murray walk for an aging Lynch was one of Reggie's siller moves.
