2025 Mock Draft thread...

Sure seems like safeties are now being mocked higher last few days. Deep position. I can see spytek taking one on top three rounds. May be the best value at a particular slot
Some noise about EMW “falling” into the second round. Think it was Rap Sheet saying it very recently like over the past 24 hours.

We should get that guy.
Because Rob’s likely playing a lot of 4-2-5 with 8 (Chinn) near the LOS, rather draft one of the deep FS with good coverage skills later in the draft (or Stukes instead).

Most of what we've read is that he's playing two high safeties.

I think 2 safeties and a 3rd closer to the LOS that's going to be some hybrid... similar to what we've done the last couple of years where the slot was basically an extra safety. DB/safety hybrid or LB/safety depending on the situation.

Agree. I think we'll see a lot of of that type of player. I think Keionte Scott actually fills that big nickel role, though I think that's where Mao did well in 2024 if memory serves.

It would have to be a pure value pick, IMO, given we kinda have the role covered between Johnson, Chinn, and Pola Mao. We're desperately in need of 2 actual safeties though. Unless they think they have players on the roster that would be more viable in a split field role. I don't see it but who knows what these guys see in practice. Safety does seem to be a position especially scheme dependent.

Yep, was just musing on the type of player, per se. I absolutely think we need two safeties, though it's a wee bit easier when you don't need a true CFer.

But I don't think we have any true viable starters there.

Hard to stop the run in a nickel with two split safeties with just 6 in the box w/o #Beaf.
Did Seattle run a lot of big meaty men slapping meat? Actual question, because I think that's more or less the rough blueprint.

Sea didn’t employ a big fatty, no. IDK enough about their run fits in nickel to know whether on 1st and 2nd down they had 6, 7 or 8 in a box, and whether their DT were two-gapping. Just know that Sea reportedly fielded an excellent tackling D.

I used ESPN's simulator and came up with this:

1.1 Fernando Mendoza QB
2.36 Chris Johnson CB
3.67 D'Angelo Ponds CB (wasn't passing on him here even after drafting CJ)
4.102 JaKobi Lane WR
4.117 Deonte Lawson LB
4.134 Jalen Farmer OG
5.175 Jason Canady S
6.185 Beau Stephens OG (who doesn't love OG OL?)
6.208 Riley Nowakowski TE (think he is better fitted for FB, but that's me)
7.219 Jack Kelly EDGE

I do hate that I didn't address the DT position, but these were the better options (IMO) at the spots I drafted them.

I don't think I've ever seen a mock draft fall the way this one did for me, especially the first four picks:

The simulators appear kind to the Raiders. If it falls like McShay’s board, nobody obvious is there at 2.36. But I’d be pleasantly surprised if SpyGuy selected S/CB Stokes. I’d be beside myself if SpyGuy did not trade up to grab C. Miller who fell to 3.65. Otherwise, it’s Big Citrus or our pick among a number of WR (Brazzell, Fields, Lance, Hurst) to finish Day 2.
