2025 College Football Thread

Reading that UCLA is the play. Forgot who Foster hired as OC after pushing the button on EB. He looks like a West Coast kind of kid, so I guess that makes sense, just not the program I'd expect.

A business?

I assume this is the stuff that NFL teams don’t like. It’s one thing to move to a program to get reps if you are kinda lost in the shuffle. Or if a player follows a coach or goes from a smaller program to a larger to gain more attention. Holding out for and missing practice I’d imagine is not looked upon fondly.

Probably not, but I expect it's something they'll have to get used to.

Is this guy highly regarded? What I find annoying is these fringe prospect types pulling this stuff. You’re a nobody, homie.

It will soon come to a point where the top players won’t workout at the combine or pro days unless they are getting paid.

As they should. They already have their resume out there. Why should they risk injury to run drills? Go there, get medicals checked and participate in the interviews. Anything else should be paid.

That’s like saying applicants for a secretary position should get paid to take a typing test lol.

Yep, like they have a choice. Carson Beck and the Duke QB are getting paid more. Of course, he was going to renegotiate. Especially if he didn't want to be in Knoxville to begin with, which is very understandable. They set the precedence when they sued over him when he was still in high school, so he and his family have looked at this as a cold business deal.

He's seen as the possible #1 pick if he comes out next year and Manning stays put as expected. He was one of those coveted five-star recruits, and although he didn't blow anybody away considering how prolific the Tennessee offense was with Hooker, he was only a freshman last year and took Tennessee to the playoff. Got a lot of Herbert comps because he's same size, strong arm, and can run.

CFB is basically on a condensed NFL contract schedule now. Every time a guy gets paid in the NFL, the next guy wants one dollar more.

Salary cap incoming.

I don't think the cavalry is coming any time soon. You know how bad shit had to be for the whole Supreme Court to agree that they needed to pay them and that there would be no rules to it? I don't think I've ever seen a 9-0 decision in any other high profile case in my lifetime.

Easiest move would be to just move away from the school affiliation and towards a club sport set up owned by the schools. Still get the money, remove the student component to student athlete altogether.

Not if they've been typing in front of a live audience for 3+ years. Again, their resume is on film.

Probably right. Besides the NCAA doesn’t have the balls to open that can of worms.

Apparently not if teams are still wanting to see them workout.

Of course the teams want it. Doesn't mean the players should acquiesce for nothing. These combines and pro-days can do a player more damage than good. They have plenty of actual football on tape...that should speak for itself.
