Wanted to do something different this go 'round. Traded back five times and collected what I soon realized was entirely too damn many picks. I should have traded back up half a dozen times, rather than just the once.
Targeted Nolan Smith first. I haven't seen anyone do this yet, and probably for good reason. But, even if he never develops into a super-productive passrusher, he could still be a monster LB. Kelce Stopper? He's retardedly athletic, so at least Al & @007 would approve.
Sticking with the theme of doing shit differently, I traded up for Brian Branch in the hopes that he actually can play safety and not just slot. Since there aren't many other safeties to choose from this year, I jumped up and took the best one. Covers the slot. Covers TEs. Kelce stopper? Defense shaping up nicely.
Dawand Jones falling to Rd3 may have been unrealistic enough that I should have ignored him, but...nah.
I wanted two press CBs. I ended up with four, and I'm not even mad. All four are physical disruptors at the LoS with heights ranging between 6' and 6'3, and enough athleticism to be hopeful about their potential.
Stevenson is someone who's been discussed around here a little, I think. Trice, on the other hand, is going to be my Lil Al winner. 6'3, 206. RAS between 9.63 and 9.89 (depends on the day, apparently). Hands off, fuckers. He's mine.
Luter & Wright had caught my eye earlier. They were fallback options if I missed out on Trice. When both were still on the board at the end of Rd5, I decided to take Luter. Forty picks later, Wright was still sitting at the top of the board. Welp. Fuck it. The pass defense is ass. Throw more resources at it.
Took Rosco Johnson because he was far and away the highest rated player on the board at any position, and we may lose Jacobs after the season. That's why we need moar RBs, @Handicapper General.
Speaking of prepping for the inevitable McDaniels dismantling of the roster, I took a couple H/W/S WRs to replace Renfrow whenever he's jettisoned. Perry & BFW are well down the rankings list of an especially light WR class. But, they've got "traits", and there'd be no pressure on them to carry the passing game while they develop. All they gotta do is catch the few crumbs that Adams & Meyers leave for them.
Wanted more from my TE, DL, and iOL picks, but...fuck it. We've got Hooper, Tillery, and Eleanor. We good. And I guess I shouldn't complain. Wypler and Zavala are highly regarded prospects, seems like.
Wypler was another guy sitting atop the board staring at me. Didn't make sense to pass on him again. Just means Parham isn't moving to center.
Coburn won't do much to affect the QB, but he'd be another NT option who can make life easier on everyone else. Farrell insurance, if nothing else.
Lacy is a big 5 tech. Leota is a 3-4 OLB type I settled for when Andre Carter got snatched away before I could get him. I kinda liked the idea of having that big beanpole backing up Nolan Smith, maybe helping to doubleteam Kelce. But, whatever.
Overshown as a nickel/dime LB isn't the ILB upgrade I wanted, but he's tall, athletic, and he can cover. Kelce stopper? Winters is undersized, but "versatile."
