For those that don't understand the chart..

Take for example the Raiders line.. 11.Oakland (40 Players) $25.98 million

That means as of today, they have 40 Players with signed 2008 contracts and the team is $25.98 million BELOW the projected 08 Salary Cap.

oh, I am sure it does since he is on contract for 08 and has not voided it as of today.

The 25 Mill LOOKs decent, but when you realize that it only accounts for 40 signed players, not so great... still good tho and better than past years.

A helluva lot better than past years. We used to never be in the top half of available cap space going into a season. Even if cap figures are iffy by nature, I like where we are at this point.

When Porter voids, that alone should cover the cost of re-upping with Huggy, if he chooses to stay and doesn't get an inflated sense of self worth. Franchising #21, on the other hand, is going to take a huge bite out of that figure. Getting him locked down longterm has to be our first priority.

I forget the exact number, but we'll get a nice lil bit of extra room when we ship Jordan's monkey ass out of town.

Now, do we cut Sapp loose as well, or keep him around in the hopes that Dorsey/Ellis can learn a few things from him?

I still feel dirty saying it. But, I have to give the guy his due. Since last year, he's been running his skinny legged ass off. Hat goes off to him. Plus, any questions about how his game fits this blocking scheme appear to have been answered.

Burgess...I'm falling a little out of love with him. Dude has lost a lot of weight and he's just plain bad in run defense. If he'd accept a KGB-type role, I could see paying him like a starter. I just don't like the way his side of the field gets sealed off consistently on running downs. I still think he'd make a good SAM at this point, even though I'll get butchered for making such a suggestion.

Forgot about TK. Coming off a season ender, so he should be cheap. Not a starting caliber tackle, but a good run defending DE. Maybe rotating him with Burgy is something to consider.

Turd makes me sick. Fuckin' motherfucker.

It's nice that we have cap space but the same issues still dog us...

We have the 11th most cap space but we're probably in 33rd place as far as liquid cash, availability just ahead of The House of Pancakes flag football team...

We're still not proactive as far as negotiating contracts... We could have given Nnamdi an extension already instead of going down the same road already traveled with Charles Woodson...

The upside is that Kiffin seems like the kind of guy that is going to have a well thought out plan in place... If Al can come up with the loot and Kiffin can use those recruiting abilities he's known for, we're in a postion to solve some problem areas...

I'd probably rather retain Sims over any player on that list above. Granted, he's not what I'd consider my ideal guy at LT, but until proven otherwise, we have no one else better on the roster. McQuistan is locking himself in at RT, Gallery is now a LG (period) and Mario Henderson can't even get himself activated.

Sapp, Jordan & Rhodes can walk. Thanks to Sapp for the solid years, but it's time IMO.

I'm ambivalent on Jerry Porter. We are already thin at WR to begin with and seeing him walk just creates one more hole.

I'm not sold on Wade Phillips, but the Cowboys are in a heck of a position over there. I still like the Colts and Steelers as next in line.

At least the Oakland Raiders made some headlines this week. Aside, of course, from rumors that the team's rookie head coach, Lane Kiffin, was considering downgrading his job by taking a position with Arkansas.

On Wednesday, SI.com released its "All-Bust Team." As laid out on the website's NFL page, it detailed the league's "ultimate underachievers of the 2007 season ... the list of guys who didn't match their team's expectations."

The poster boy for the story was the self-proclaimed "QB Killa" himself, Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

"How can someone so big come up so small?" writer Don Banks questioned. "We know he's just a week away from his 35th birthday, but after his stellar comeback season of 2006 (10 sacks), Sapp had once again raised the bar of expectation. Maybe last year was the aberration and this year is the norm."

He's right. Sapp has just 42 tackles and a pair of sacks this season, and he is the key (maybe not so key) tackle on a defense that ranks 31st in stopping the run.

Surprisingly, though, Sapp was the only Raider on the list. There weren't even any "dishonorable mentions" to note.

Here are the players Banks forgot to include, conveniently all members of the Silver and Black.

Derrick Burgess: In the previous two seasons leading up to 2007, the 29-year-old defensive end registered a league-leading 27 sacks. At this pace, he'll be lucky to finish off the year with seven. To the veteran's credit, he did miss two games earlier this season with an Achilles' injury. However, nobody could have expected his backup, Chris Clemons, to have more sacks with just three games remaining.

Daunte Culpepper: Since a five-touchdown performance against the Miami Dolphins (back when they weren't that bad), the "healthy" Culpepper who signed with Oakland has done nothing but suffer injuries and show a decrease in production. Outside of that Week 4 win against his old team, Culpepper has thrown just three touchdowns in seven appearances, not to mention that he's tossed five picks and been sacked 21 times.

Chris Carr: It's hard to pick on a guy who is willing to run into a pack of 11 men all bigger than himself, but the lack of vision from the 180-pound Carr this season is a near-impossible reality to ignore. "The Raiders' all-time leading return man," as every NFL broadcaster loves to proclaim, averages just 21.0 yards per rep this year with a long of only 38. As a team, the Raiders rank 30th in the category and are one of just five teams without a runback over 40 yards.

Rob Ryan: Ryan looks rugged, motivational and fiery, but his inability to adjust may lead to him being fired. The fourth-year D-coordinator, whose birthday happens to be today, has assembled a scheme that is consistently helpless against the run. The Raider 'D' allows over 150 yards on the ground each game and has let nine different rushers surpass the 100-yard bar in 13 games. Somebody has to be blamed, and the rough-looking Ryan is the easiest.

Terdell Sands: There's only so many ways to stress how awful the Raiders' run defense is. To put things into perspective, Terdell Sands, a 6-foot-7, 335-pound tackle, who was awarded a four-year, $17 million contract last February, has just 12 more tackles this season than wide receiver Jerry Porter. Porter doesn't even play special teams.

Jesus the guy has some injury's and gets doubled because we only rush 4 people? Who else would the opposing O-Line worry about? Burgess is still a very good player and we shouldnt sell him out so fast.

He's also about 220 pounds. He's not going to get any production at that weight, IMO.
