Don't know if they're still around.But awhile back we were in SF.The had these little rental cars.Almost like a 3 wheeler.I think it was open top.They're not very big and yet seemed kinda cool.Almost like they have in some cities where you can rent/use a bike.Pickup anywhere and drop off when you're done.

OK, so what's the deal with knowing what the price is before you order the car? Why do they sometimes show a range like $12-17? Is it 12 or is it 17. They don't know?

I'm not feeling this Uber thing I'm afraid. Seems like there is one scam after the other that the riders have to be aware of. I guess I'll give it a shot but WTF?

They give a price range because they take traffic into consideration or any other possible delays. But the range is pretty spot on to be honest with you. And even if a driver takes a bad route, Uber will reimburse you the difference. They are pretty good with that and looking out for their customers! You have nothing to worry about trust me. Like I said, if there is a surge just wait it out!

I should point out that the company that I'm working for, Postdates, is essentially the Uber of (mostly food) deliveries. But one key difference that it has is that it's way clearer in terms of pricing, and they allow tipping.

Hmmmm...seems that maybe Uber is "OK" for customers (if you're careful and read all the fine print) but the people driving are getting it up the ass.

yep exactly! Like the guy in the video above mentioned, 30 cents a mile in Detroit. You'd have to be a fucking idiot to drive for rates that low. :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I really don't see how drivers can make this thing work at all. The wear and tear on your car, maintenance, tires etc...how the hell?

Hell, you'd need a new car every 18 months if you drove enough to make a decent living. How's that math work?

That's the problem. Uber don'tgive a single fuck! Someone's a sucker if they drive for Uber period! You spend 150 a week on fuel alone. And that's 30 hours of driving. Not even accounting for dead miles and idle time. They eventually want to get to self driving cars anyways. And wanna deliver a knock out blow to cab companies (which I would applause). Fuck FUber

I still think UBER is a fucked up deal for the drivers. Not sure how nobody makes that work.

Might be ok for people using the service but the drivers are for sure getting the shaft.

Yes, and that is exactly why I joined in on the class action lawsuit! They just keep lowering and lowering the rates. My theory behind that is that they are trying to deal a death-blow to the cab companies. Now I have no problem with that, but they are running people's cars into the ground while they are driving for pennies! Shameful. And the crazy part about it is that they don't even have to lower the rates that much lower than the cab companies. Uber gets more from commission and the drivers makes more. And on top of that, people would still pay significantly less than a regular cab. An Uber ride as a way more pleasant experience than a cab! And don't even get me started on how Uber discourages Rider from tipping the driver

@CrossBones

So I know some folks have had experiences with Uber as both employees and customers. I realize the employee thing didn't go well but I want to hear from you if you are a customer.

How did your experience(s) go? Is it worth screwing around with?

The reason I ask is because the last two times I have been in San Francisco we stayed at the Grand Hyatt on Union Square. Getting a taxi there was a total pain in the ass. Sometimes we had to wait 30 minutes or more to get the guy to flag a cab down. I realize they have ben fucking around with that tunnel project on Stockton street so maybe taxi cabs just steer clear of the area. I don't know. Reading about Uber it seems that would have been a better option.

Vote in the poll and discuss.

I've never had any problems with it. Most of the drivers are courteous and the cars are always clean. Cab/limo drives that used to run me $20-25 are about half that now. I always give the driver a tip on top of it. I think you can even put the tip on your card now. I'm kind of like how are these guys making any money after Uber takes it share and then paying for gas?

Surely beats a DUI

I prefer LYFT...drivers seem happy and they are timely. Took UBER to BWI from my dump hotel near Dred -Ex and had to talk the guy into dropping me at the terminal.

Apparently UBER is banned from the airport but not the Cabs?

Anyway the Raiders and Uber sucked last weekend . Conspiracy ?

Be honest I haven't used Uber yet.

But I'm gonna sign up since we used Uber several times in Paris last week. My buddy had it on his phone and honestly I can't think of any negative. Came in handy late at night and not having to use the Metro and transfer trains.

So gonna give it a try. I just don't trust Uber with my CC info etc. but then I guess it's no different than buying something at Anazon online. :oops:

I haven't had any problems with the app as far as my credit card

Anybody setup their Uber app using PayPal as the payment method?

Can't seem to wrap my head around how that works.

@DonkeyKilla @MostWanted650

I have it attached to the credit card I use for travel so I rack up points and get reimbursed. I'd be more worried about connecting to my paypal than my credit card. Credit cards will typically take care of you in any fraudulent cases but I'm not sure about Paypal, and my Paypal is tied to my bank account so I don't pay fees. I would say get both Lyft and Uber apps and connect them with whichever credit card you use that gives points or $ back or whatever. I prefer Lyft but both work fine.

OK I ma now a Uber-er.

In San Antonio we took Uber everywhere. It really was a great service.

Few things...

First for the riders I think it's great. Fast, less expensive than a cab. You know when the car will be there and can follow it's progress. I also like the you know how much the ride is going to cost up front and don't have to worry about the meter running while the driver is driving in circles because he took a wrong turn -- like in a cab.

Uber's greatest asset (GPS) is also their weakest link. Sometimes the GPS has drivers frustrated because many don't even have any idea where they are going without the GPS. So if where you are standing is a little complicated, say at a shopping mall, the driver can get confused and frustrated.

For Drivers I don't think Uber is a good deal. I have no idea how those drivers are making any money. Most of them we rode with had been doing it for a few months, one guy a year but I think after six months drivers figure out they can't make a go of it. Gas, destroying your car with high milage etc. So that is why Uber constantly looks for new drivers,. The more the merrier and as ones drop off new ones are taking their place daily.

Anyway for me it was a good experience and I'll keep doing it. We first used Uber in Paris last month using my friends account and I found that even better than in San Antonio. Clean newer cars, clean drivers and very efficient.
