Training Camp 2017

Well, the dress rehearsal for the regular season is this week.

Not so much, unfortunately.

We play Dallas in the regular season. Neither team is really going to tip their hand and risk facing a better prepared opponent in a meaningful game.

This is two years in a row we've gotten fucked out of our dress rehearsal game like this. That's questionable as hell.

Carr said somethig similar at his presser. It is common sense. But apparently it's not the party line or the coaches' view.

JDR had a different take. He said they would be guarded regardless. Early opponents watch the 3rd preseason games too. He would still be basic for that reason. Because we play Dallas near the end of the year, he said that game does not add much reason to be more guarded. By the end of the year, he said, there will be plenty of tape on both teams, as well as perhaps different players (or players playing at different levels) on the field.

I actually think those are some good points. And as fans we perhaps make too much of this. Either way, JDR was prepared for the question.

Seeing some of this shit about Obi and Conley is hilarious. Need I remind everyone of the panic around here in the first like 6 weeks of Mack's rookie year? The word bust was thrown around by quite a few of you.

Mack participated in preseason activities, these guys haven't gotten their uniforms on, which in reality means there's no guarantee they will (although I think both will be fine), they may not see the field until mid season.

We drafted them to help our secondary, there's no way they can do that without getting on the field.

Thank you. There's no underestimating how valuable OTA's and camp are to a rookie who has to absorb so much. There's nothing more important than getting the pre-season reps in. If one or the other starts the season on PUP, you can pretty much kiss the season good bye for all intents and purposes.

There are zero positives about our first two draft picks being out this long.... even Ted wouldn't carry the Raiders water with this... well, he would, but he shouldn't

ESPN has long ago stopped being relevant.

I'd rather hear what Hannah Storm has to say.

Is The George Michael Sports Machine still around? The Solid Gold Dancers?

Absolutely not saying there's positives or that it hasn't been disappointing they haven't been on the field. However, you're fooling yourself if you thought either would come out and turn a whole unit around. Hell, Mack had a damn fine rookie campaign but still wasn't a huge different maker. You know of the thread where people are calling him a bust. Year two and three? We all know what happened.

So yeah, calling them busts already is stupid. I said that with Mack and I'll say it with them. Joseph missed most of TC last year and playing pretty solid before getting hurt again, too. Obviously we want him to make a big leap this season.

I used to stay up and watch George Michaels Sports Machine after the 10pm news!

Younger dudes are like "what, singer George Michael had a sports show?"

Agreed with both of you. Bad news that both picks are not playing esp given the Swiss cheese secondary

Yet everyone who thinks rookies would have a huge impact even when healthy are mistaken. They are rookies and learning curve is steep. Reggie blew it by not being more aggressive in FA

Not so much questionable as standard operating procedure...ala..home games inMexico City or being in the top 5 of travel miles or penalties for umpteen years!

Are you implying that these dress rehearsal games actually have some value? If we go 12-4 after a sham of a dress rehearsal game last season, I vote we sandbag all our dress rehearsal games from here on out. At least I won't have to hunt somebody down with NFL Network at 9pm on Saturday night......

Sometimes I wish I knew how to embed video like Ted does, circle guys and talk over it. Not often, mind you, but sometimes.

The Kupp TD on Carrie didn't strike me as a vanilla play call. Kupp starts bunch right, motions left behind TE and Carrie follows. Just pre-snap Kupp goes back right and Carrie has to move through four Raider defenders to get there, never catches Kupp's speed.

That's both a communication issue and an eye violation as far who had what responsibility.
