Tom Cable: Back in Black

FWIW, Cowboys were also looking at Rocky, and their personnel couldn't fit what he's coached in the past any worse either.

One of the themes of past articles about Tom Cable (introducing him with Oakland the first time, and introducing him with Seattle) is that he has a very strong presence with the offensive line. The articles mention that Lane wouldn't have to worry about the OL group because Cable brought the whole group along very well, creating a cohesive group that would handle their shit--like the head coach of the position group. He also got buy-in from the whole team into the philosophy.

One that Bisaccia, Cable, and Guenther all have in common is that strong leadership/HC of the group mentality. Only Greg Olsen doesn't have that personality. It makes me think that Gruden is looking to allow freedom and even identity within each group, but he is going to own that QB room.

@Nobodyinparticular Gruden said in the press conference that he's more big-picture now than he was, so he's clearly looking for coaches who he trusts to handle the details.

I liked most everything I heard from Gruden in that presser.

I especially like him being a little humble talking about how he had a lot to prove and it was refreshing that he didn't predict championships, etc.

He wants to get to work which is one thing we can count on from him.

I hope this is going to work out well for the Raiders.

So there is nothing else to do but forget it cuz it's a circular discussion at this point.

:chuckle:........... @Sleet

It’s one of a bazillion of them. Still lost on how this became about me responding to the rationalization of it when that rationalization quoted me, but dude I don’t have to forget anything I didn’t bring up.

:righton: :dumb:

I think it will work out. He's coming to prove he can coach, and this staff is impressive. The Cincy coordinator is a step up from anything we've had in years. He has two more former OCs on staff as well. He has a QB he can mold (dude won a game with Donald Hollis). NE is closer to the end, Pitt has a couple of years of Big Ben, and KC still has choke job Reid. No reason why we can't be at top of AFC real soon (hell we were there last year). D needs a major overhaul, and Red needs to pick OO7/Crow's guys in Rounds 1-3, and we're good.

he had 45 year old Wade Wilson winning the punt-fest against the Chargers(pass to James Jett no less)... didn't Leo kick it like 16 times or something ridiculous? :pound:

Wasn't he One in a long line if "players' coaches" that we've had?

Hip-hip-hooray?

Seriously, Cable can handle being an O-line coach. HC, not so much.

In Seattle he had like a D-lineman at T, and much of that line is like the Raiders at LB under the leadership of the cretin GM: mostly not even on most team's rosters.

We'll see what he can from G out...'cause TEs spend time in the O-line meetings.

He was the more easily controlled offensive lineman hire after the OC hire that had implemented the full blown West Coast offense (Mike White). You remember the championship claim. I remember Al dominating the presser saying we were going back to being vertical and all of this shit, which we did. The offense was certainly explosive and fun that year. Just inconsistent and we lost all of the time.

Then it was the OC hire again implementing what he wanted offensively in West Coast principles, Gruden, before another OL hire (Callahan) who was told to do what the last coach did, and when he went off that script the next year, it was all over.

Then, the OC hire in Turner before the OL hire again in Shell. Then, the OC hire again in Kiffin, though we couldn't even get an NFL guy at that point, then the OL guy again in Rocky who unlike the past was allowed to implement his own system before Al pulled rank and brought Hue in for his audition season. Then, finally another OC guy in Hue.

It was totally Al's pattern. We were on track for Bob Wiley, HC, by 2014 had he not clocked out on us.
