The Todd Downing Thread

Raiders commit to OC Downing for rest of 2017

Coach Jack Del Rio announced OC Todd Downing will remain with the Raiders the remainder of the season.

Ex-OC Bill Musgrave was let go at the end of last season, as the Raiders failed to even make him an offer as a free agent coach. The move was made in order to promote Downing, who was believed to be a riser in the coaching ranks. His first season running the show in Oakland has been a total disaster. Derek Carr has taken multiple steps back and looks like one of the most overpaid players in the league, while Amari Cooper has been a non-factor most weeks. Oakland is 19th in total offense, 15th in passing, and 26th in rushing. Downing may be one-and-done, with Del Rio possibly on the hot seat as well.

you guys see this shit?
He's no riser, he's a floater.

Mike Tice?!

Yeah I know... :killme:
With a small sample size, it seems to me our OL is tiping the blocking scheme on running plays. I've seen it with line splits and posture. This is what Tice should be cleaning up, but he isn't. OL doesn't go from very good to very bad in one season under the same coach for no reason in particular. I wonder if Tice is undermining Downing on purpose.

Tice got propped up by an $8 billion interior OL and Musgrave scheming to Carr’s 1.5 seconds or less tendencies.

He’s a JAG.
I'll admit the run game wasn't very good last year either. But Carr has very little to do with run blocking.
