****The Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread (Day 1)****

Cole Strange had a 3rd round grade. If Raiders made this pick, they would be excoriated. And with their track history, deservingly so. Belicheck does it, and “he’s so smart”

Man, Cole Strange. Still wild they took him at 29. The Patriots trust their board - and they might be absolutely right. Strange will be a long-time NFL starter

Yet this dude hates the Strange pick. Excuse the pun

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Grade: D

Let’s start with the good part:
The Patriots traded back before making this pick, netting an additional third- and fourth-round pick from the Chiefs.

Now the bad part:
They did that thing that the Patriots like to do, which is select a player that almost no one (literally no one?) expected to be a first-round pick. I actually like Strange as a player, but he’s a soon-to-be 24-year-old small-school interior lineman who struggled to anchor and may lack the bulk to play anywhere but center. New England leaves an awful lot of talent on the board here in grabbing Strange, my 73rd-ranked player. I don’t love the value, even with the trade down factored in.

What was the reason behind knocking Dallas? They've invested pretty heavily in their OL for a while now.

The kid is real raw and unpolished and a penalty magnet. And that's a very penalized team. That said, he was in that tier below the top three and they were all sort of bunched together. Probably wouldn't be there in second round when they picked but seemed like a bit of a reach.

I think more because once again a seemingly no brainer dropped to them in Johnson and this time they over thought it.

Kiper’s reaction to the pick was something like, “he is a walking penalty. He has no technique, needs to be coached up, and is a penalty waiting to happen.”

George Karlaftis is the modern day player that listens to his agent and pisses me off. He knew he could jump out of the roof, and did so at the combine. His shuffle was average. He chose not to run the 40 or 3 cone. Then he ran the 40 at his pro day, why, for a friendly time? But still no 3 cone. He is good enough to get away with it. His game on tape is explosion and he had explosive jumps. It still bothers me that players don’t run all the drills, especially the 3 cone for an OLB/DE/DL. Hopefully he’s hiding a real flaw, like Ferrell did, especially since he has relatively short arms and small hands.
