So where are we through 8 games?

QB - Derek looking good. Fun fact the best QB rating in the NFL currently belongs to Mike Glennon.

WR - Not an exceeding talented group but getting the job done. Zay Jones looks like he can fit the role that we've been trying to fill since the AB disaster. Hunter is getting better week by week. Helps that our TEs have taken a lot of pressure off this group.

RB - Jacobs is a freakin stud. Washington and Richard can take some carries and be effective. Ingold is solid

TE - Waller is a stud. Moreau would be a solid starter on any other team. Carrier is a good 3rd guy. Might be the best 1-2-3 of any group outside of the ravens.

OL - Despite playing musical chairs we've had a solid group. We look like we did back in 2016. I'd like to get our top 5 healthy for more then 10 snaps.

DL - I see lots of good individual efforts but success hasnt been there. Maxx might be the only guy I give a "solid" grade to. Hankins fits well as a run plug. I see occasional splash plays from every other player (Hall, Mayowa, Ferrell, Key - all make splash plays). Ferrell still doing work inside and out as is Key. We need "that guy" that demands attention and can let our other guys work.

LB - Morrow and Whitehead are "solid" players but whitehead is a step slow to cover and neither guy is making a huge impact. We miss Burfict some. Compton had a couple solid plays this last game.

CB - Worley is our best corner. Mullen is coming along and looking better week by week. Lawson has been quietly decent. If we get something out of Johnson we could be good. Joyner runs hot and really really cold. We get good effort out of the group but they are affected by our lack of pass rush and some great catches by the opposing team.

S - We've been OK here since Harris took over. Kujo is decent but not amazing. Not having Riley on the field has been a boon. We miss Abram here.

Overall - we've got a lot of effort players and are playing some good ball. We are making less mistakes as the year goes on. Our OL and running game along with Carr making good decisions are carrying this team. We aren't KC with the explosive weapons. But we aren't making negative plays either. We need impact players on every level on D. We need a true "#1" WR. Thats nothing against our WR group. Williams has been solid as a #1. We could see guys develop on D into those impact players. Maxx is working on it. Ferrell has some pedigree. Mullen and Abram could be guys in the secondary. It's a work in progress. Question becomes is the scheme up to par? We don't blitz enough and aren't getting there with 4 often enough to say "we don't need to". We have a lot of young talent. Another solid draft and a shrewd FA pickup and we could be something.

    The good:

O-line- Injuries, but they're solid. Kolton Miller has played very well. Dude looks like a long term fix. Cable has done well with this group.
Young players- We went from real old to real young. Second in NFL in rookie snaps and all but one are contributing. Jacobs- stud/elite. Waller- same. Miller- very good. Moreau, Maxx, Renfrow- all contributing. All the WRs are young are poised to improve.

Carr- He's been "good". That's a fair assessment at this point.

Gruden- the offensive mind. Still has it. He can call a game.

    The bad-

Guenther- I'm tired of the no talent excuses. Dude's schemes suck ass. WRs are WIDE open every game, he's not using corners the right way. Dude sucks.

D-line- still no pressure. Wouldn't mind more premium picks.

Taking Ferrell over Allen- this one's gonna sting for a long while.

Gruden the GM- Brown signing (shit). He needs to leave the draft to Mayock and let him run it.

    LBs- they suck.

If you look at it that way, our D is outperforming our O.

What's the monetary equivalent to draft capital?

Yep! Only paying so little to the defense, because all their high picks are still on rookie contracts. And mostly failing. (KJ, I'm looking at you)

I'd like Key and Crosby to end the year with 6 sacks each and see the younger defensive players just get more PT, particularly the two rookie corners. Those guys should be key pieces next year.

Agreed. I want all our "future" pieces to end with 6 sacks minimum each. Ferrell, Key, Crosby, Hall, and Hurst. Ferrell has 1, Hall has 1.5 and the rest have 2 each. So thats half a sack a game for each of them the way out.

Is it just me, or has anyone else come away with impression that PJ Hall is more disruptive than Maurice Hurst over the first half of the season?

No Hurst has seemed to regress this season.

Probably so. He's strong as an ox... seems like he's got some technique issues to clean up but he's been way better than I expected based on preseason. Maybe year 3 the light will go on for a couple of these guys,

We sure aren't terrible. Are we good? I'll believe it when I see it. Never understood the had wringing over the schedule, looks like a cake walk here on in. I think reality will settle in, there are some good teams around, just not many in the AFC.

Hall and Kolton have both been very solid players for us.

    Final Reggie Mackenzie props?

I think we have a foundation and the beginnings of an identity. We're not a hollow 8-8 or whatever we end up being.
