Everybody wants to compare him to Calais Campbell... he's no Calais Campbell.

For as freakish a frame as he has he gets stood up WAY too much at the LOS. And he doesn't use his hands well enough to disengage blockers. I think he could be a decent rotational guy but considering Mario Edwards exceeded expectations, and, of course, assuming he recovers fully from his neck injury another strongside DE isn't something that needs to be addressed early in the draft.

True, but what does that have to do with Oakman?

Didn't love him last year. Don't love him this. Wouldn't touch him in the first 2 rounds. Looks good coming off the bus. Beat up less athletic competition. Will get mauled in the pros

I think he's a fantastic prospect in the 40-80 range. His down senior year was on him. Many will knock him for playing so up and down, dissapearing for long stretches and not playing consistently. I fully assume he will get propped up for actually sticking around for his senior year and trying to win.

Just like Dunlap, Hunt,Johnson, Campbell, Danielle Hunter (Who I liked more than most here, and heard the same arguments about last year), Kareem Martin and a bunch of others.

Thats the sweet spot to take physically gifted, strong, athletic defensive ends. Some of them put the time in to refine their skills, learn to play with leverage and actually find a good fit. Its a big risk and I wouldnt be banging the table relentlessly for him, but I would be completely fine with the choice.

And just so you guys know...Oakman is not even near my top targets in rd 2 and 3. I just understand why he could go in that range.

I will make most of you puke when you hear....I like a few of the WR's quite a bit in that range, hahahaha.

I am tentatively guessing Treadwell, Coleman and Thomas are gone in round one. I'm a big fan of Will Fuller, Tyler Boyd and Pharaoh Cooper though.

    I'm such a WR whore.

    This about sums it up:

Baylor senior DE Shawn Oakman accepted an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Oakman was recently named to the Second team All-Big 12 squad. Evaluators have spent several months shredding him, but a part of that criticism comes from their own failure in having seen in Oakman something he isn't yet and might never be. For all the condemnation, you might have figured Oakman stunk this year. In fact, the 6-foot-8, 276-pound prospect led the Bears with 14.5 tackles for loss and added 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He's not the top-10 prospect some expected him to be, but Oakman would make for a nice roll of the dice on Day 2 if you trust your coaching staff. Rarely will he find himself lining up across from a more gifted opponent in the NFL.

Dude's wingspan is insane - a friggen knuckle dragger like Kevin McHale. Good upper body strength, but that same bull rush move over and over would get buried in the NFL. As Natty pointed out, bad hands will get him engaged and stuck more often than not as he didn't seem to have good bend on a speed rush around the edge. I"d day 4th round talent with a bigger upside.

Im thinking a TON of Wr's go earlier in the draft due to need. Not many solid FA guys and plenty of need. Good thing we locked up Cooper and Crabtree last season. Pickings are slim.

I also wouldn't touch Oakman in the first. Mid-second or third wouldn't kill me, but only because we turned Mario into something and we have a good culture.

ps- I bet Treadwell goes before our #14 if he tests well. But I could see Reggie going all GB and drafting another WR to pair with Cooper. Yes we have much greater needs, but if LT is the BPA we could debate on his worth vs how much we struggled passing the ball after Cooper was injured. We would have the nastiest WR core for the future and Carr would have some nice weapons to grow with. Im all over the place this draft season, I can make and argument for every position except run stopping DT, TE and QB. Anything else is fair game. Currently stuck on the Andrew Billings bandwagon until further notice. 19, powerful, hard worker, 3 downs, production, upsideā€¦ sign me up.

true Jihad must be reserved for post FA period. I agree though, pretty much every position is fair game and we just need the BPA.
