I can only watch playoff basketball, and then only if my team is playing. I confess fully to being a fair weather basketball fan.

Hockey, now.... that’s interesting. There isn’t a more exciting sport to see live. I can completely get into if I’m there. On television? I can watch if I’m around hockey people but I wouldn’t stop flipping through channels for it if it were just me.

MMA? Yeah, huge fan. Probably equal to my love of the Raiders.

I can only watch football on TV anymore regularly. I'll catch some MMA as my Mom and her husband are fans/get the PPVs. But I'm not invested or shelling out my own cash.

Baseball - is fine for the live experience - still dont care about the game
Basketball? - Playoffs are fine for TV. Dont care much either way.
Hockey - great live. Not worth watching on TV
MMA - better on TV then live unless you shell out ungodly amounts of money for good seats.

I loved both basketball and baseball growing up and played both sports. I'll watch them, but only in passing interest now.

@Langlier , I completely agree that live MMA pretty much sucks. The atmosphere can be great. I saw Jake Ellenberger v Diego Sanchez back in the day. The crowd was pretty muted for most of the card but it was electric for the main event. Problem is, unless guys are just standing and trading hands, it’s hard to follow live without watching the big screen anyway, especially the jui-jitsu transitions.

Love basketball and the Warriors...I am an east bay fan. Greatest group of players, people ever assembled....both in sports, and just genuine good people.

    Never was interested in hockey.

UFC/MMA is awesome. I watch it when its on TV but don't order the PPV. So learning all the names of the fighters over time. One of the better fights I saw was the Nick Diaz vs Conor Macgregor fights. Some big injuries I have seen is when Anderson Silva broke his leg, and one fighter who almost lost his lid.

Also watch the women fight. One really nice looking fighter, Paige Vanzant. I would like to give her some riding time.

I like that there are nuances to every fighter...wrestler, martial arts, judo, boxer...ground game, size of their legs etc..

    Legit sport...

I haven't followed professional boxing in many years. However, I saw that some fat slob won the heavyweight championship.
Is this the same heavyweight championship that Ali won in the day?
If it is, OMG boxing has really hit rock bottom.

I grew up watching boxing but that “sport” has been dead to me since the 90s. Too much politics, too many padded records, too few really important fights, too many robberies.

For example: Floyd v Manny would have been a great fight... 5 years earlier. All of the top guys don’t want to fight each other. Fuck boxing.

I do love a good Roy Jones Jr highlight clip though. Can’t even lie about that.

I got to go to my first MLB game on Mother's Day. Took the wife and kids to watch the D-Backs (First time for me and the kids, wife hadn't been there since they won the first World Series). It was a fun experience, as I hadn't been to a game since I was a kid with the Tucson Toros (I think they were a farm team). Watching it on TV is ungodly awful.
Haven't watched basketball in years, as I had to make a decision on where to divide my time. I'll catch a U of Arizona game here and there tho.
Hockey - Went to some IceCats games back in the day and the energy was great, but much like baseball, just give highlights, don't need a whole game.
MMA is a completely different beast for me, but then I A) watched it from day 1, B) used to be a wrestler and have some minor martial arts background, so I love the strategy of it all and C) for a while, I was shooting it, so I was literally ringside, but from above. I'm actually watching some recent fights while I'm working and typing this (multi screens and multi-tasking for the win!) https://mmashare.fullfightvideo.eu/ for anyone that cares.

None of these compare to football to me. Played back in high school, so have a connection to it as well, but it's just much more fun to watch.

I don't follow baseball at all and the NBA is dead to me since the NBA commissioner/cocksucker allowed his friend to steal the Sonics away... I do really enjoy live MLB.. it is the perfect live sport.. chill and relaxing, usually no dumbasses yelling or showing their ass... you don't really have to pay attention every second and worry of missing something... it's kinda like a picnic with 40k people, games are super affordable... could be that the Mariners stadium is fucking amazing... you can literally walk anywhere, grab a beer, whatever and you have a perfect view of the ballgame from literally everywhere in that place.. they really did that place right.

I personally prefer football on TV... unless you got seriously spendy tickets it's difficult to see the entire game 300 level/midfield is best as you can see the plays/WR's develop, but hard to experience the violence of the game from all the way up there... you take a piss and you miss kickoff return for touchdown type shit:mad:... I'm getting kinda old to tolerate drunk idiots in such a high testosterone area... but the atmosphere in an important game can be really exciting and electric... I've been to some Husky games and college football is incredible, it's really fun.

Football to me is the least impressive sport to watch live. If it weren't for the tailgating and hanging out aspect it's a complete waste IMO. I don't know how many times I've had friends call me from Raider games asking me if something was a first down or not, etc. A 20 yard run looks awesome on TV but not so much live.

For me, basketball is still king when it comes to live sports. I've heard hockey is great but haven't been to a game though. But yeah, I'm digging baseball for exactly the reasons you listed. Shit, I hope the A's never get a new stadium and the crowd stay's exactly like it is.

Hockey is really fun.. you gotta go.

I've not gone to NHL so can't speak to that, but we have a good minors team here (Seattle Thunderbirds) that plays in an arena just down the road.. there's not a bad seat in that arena, think it holds 10-12k... it's kinda neat 'cause there are so many games you get online and buy the seats you want no sweat... they are really family friendly with entire arena singing and doing competitions between periods... it's actually a good mix of the action/excitement and aggression of football, but semi scarce scoring or huge plays like baseball so it's a bit more relaxed.

just an FYI if you go I like seats near the top of the stadium lining up near the goal on the home side(that way you get 2 of 3 periods of your team attacking in front of you)... all penalties will play right in front of you and obviously the most exciting part is attacking the goalie, + up high you still get a view of the other end, but still the way this arena is, you're right on top of the action there and see everything, the physicality and all that stuff.

plus all those teenage young men like to fight, so they get it on pretty often... you gotta check it out if there's a team nearby, super fun and affordable, and I don't follow hockey at all, and never as a kid, but those matches are hoot.

I have great memories as a kid riding with my grandpa in his beat up cattle truck listening to Vin Scully do Dodger games on the radio

Ex NFL TE Bear Pascoe is now a champion bull rider.... that's pretty bad ass

Football is King on TV for me. Like to go to a game here and there but kind of feel like I miss the game live.
Hockey and Basketball are both great live but hockey has a slight edge for me. Bball way better tv sport. Don’t watch much of either till the playoffs start though.

Baseball? Meh. If we had Rugby here I could see myself get into it. World Cup Soccer once every 4 years, sure. You know what I dig though? Downhill skiing. Those motherfuckers are crazy.

I grew up in SoCal. Between the ages of 7 and 12 I would spend a lot of time at my grandparents house. My grandfather would listen to Dodger games on the radio. Vin Scully was the voice on the radio. I truly believe that once his hearing was gone, he figured it was time to check out since he couldn't hear the games anymore. He was 93. During that time, my uncle would take us to Dodger games. We would sit in the cheap seats, take our own snacks in bread bags and take our gloves in case someone knocked a ball deep into left field (never happened). This was the early 70s. I've only ever been to a baseball game once after that. During Desert Storm, the Angels would admit active duty military to games for free. The Twins won that game. I don't watch baseball, basketball, or hockey unless it's game seven of the finals.

This week, the remains of the Marines that were lost in a collision between a C-130 and F-18 near Japan were retrieved from 9000 feet of water in the Philippine Sea. I didn't know these men, but I know the mission as I've been doing it for thirty years. I am grateful that this was accomplished for the families to have closure.

I also found out that my son is getting divorced. His wife felt that he was not giving her the attention she deserved, so she found someone that did. He's an active duty Marine about to retire. They didn't have any kids. He seems to be okay, but he did two tours in the middle east so I worry a little. I intend to drag him to Vegas when the stadium opens up and maybe him and @NIPS can chase hookers together. I'll brief him on the camping deal ahead of time. Let him make up his own mind.... ;)

I'm not a fan of Hard Knocks but I'll be watching this season. Gotta be better than the way Game of Thrones ended. At least that's what the wife tells me...o_O

Great stories. I’ll even give you Dodger fans a pass. I have great memories of my dad who used to bring me to Candlestick to watch the great Giant teams, Mays, McCovey, Marichal.

Then going to the Cow Palace and Civic Center to watch the Warrior games. Rick Barry, Nate Thurmond, Jeff Mullins. That’s what I grew up with.

I have great memories of my early years growing up in the Bay Area even though I lived in NY for most of my life. Once I moved to Florida and experienced a camping adventure with @NIPS things were never quite the same again.
