since ive had a lot of turmoil in my personal life, I’ve had other stuff worrying me than coming here and pissing and moaning about my favorite pro team. Things are calming for me and have been for few months so at times I have popped and and checked out the vibe and happenings here. I was nearly killed in a off road vehicle accident at hollister hills here in California in March and broke my back and still suffering from injuries. But being down and injured has allowed me to step back and watch games over and over and give my unprofessional opinion on players both young and old.

First off just to address the two big trades we made, trading Mack sucked but we got a good haul for him and bringing Mayock to help assemble talent and build this team helps. If we can draft two solid starters with those picks I’ll be happy with that. Mack was awesome but Gruden was right last offseason when he said this defend was no good with Mack on it. I can see why they would hesistate to pay one player that much money on a defense that is horrible with him. Hope he does well in Chicago, but we all have to move on and hope we hit our draft picks and FA and other ways to improve the trade. Cooper flat out just didn’t want to be here. His performance slipped over the last few years, at times just looked like he was going through the motions and both sides needed a fresh start. I also think, and we saw some of this last night, that Talib and Peters when both in the AFC west punked him hard and often and that got in his head. He wasn’t the same player when facing them with us. Coop was very soft IMO. Plus didn’t want to be here, dunces. Need to hit on his draft pick as well.

On to Derek Carr. I’m a known Derek Carr/Fresno State homer but that doesn’t mean I don’t see issues with him. There is a lot of good and some bad with him. Look at Carr in 2015 and 2016. Del Rios first two years. Cooper played at a high level making big catches down field, Crabtree was the tough move the chains/catch in traffic guy, had a big man in Andre Holmes and Seth Roberts had emerged as legit #3. Had solid run game with Murray. One constant in all of that was the Raiders OL all we’re mostly healthy and Penn/osemele were in their prime. Fast forward to this year because 2017 was a lost fucking cause all around after a great start and I do believe the anthem bullshit that started around the Washington game had a lot to do with the downfall of that team. In comes gruden, and another New offensive scheme, Carr in his 5 years has only had the same offensive schemes two years in a row ONCE. Changing OCs from musgrave to downing showed us all what going from one guy to another can do to a Young QB. I think Carr got off to a decent start in gruden offense other than the 4th quarter on MNF against the rams. I along with everyone though during that Dolphins game that he andthe offense had arrived. Raiders should have been 2-1 through those first 3 games now 0-3 but dog shit defense can be thanked for that. Carr and the offense then took a free fall for a little but after trading Cooper and shelving Lynch a long with a rotation of fresh new guys at WR Carr got them respectable toward end of the year. Carr does make some bad decisions at times but nothing crazy that alarms me. There was a ton of miscommunication this season some on the QB, some not and that’s got to be cleaned up. With the people we had on offense the last few games and the production we had gives me some optimism that with some good additions there we could again have a good offense here and soon. Look at Carr’s good years, he didn’t have a TE as his number one receiver, and that’s been the case the last two years. That’s got to change and that’s why I’m for letting Jared Cook walk if It means being able to bring in a legit #1 WR and draft/develop a TE to go along with Waller and Lee Gronkowsmith lol.

I have thought about us going after a QB and moving on from Carr, but there has to be a better option out there. Flacco? Lol no there’s no potentially available QBs out there I would rather have than Carr. On to the draft, Haskins? Someone is going to blow their load for that guy. Let em, that means we get jumped in the draft and allows one more pass rusher to fall into our laps. Kyler Murray intrigues the fuck out of me. He is the only player I would consider moving on from Carr for. I LOVE that kid. Small as hell but you have to love everything else about him. I could see Jon loving him as well. That’s something we are going to have to wait and see for but as of now Carr is our guy and we must build around him. I know we had our issues this year but they go so much further beyond the QB and yet Carr put 4000 yards in a season for first time and was statisclaly solid other than low TD numbers, but look at his cast all along the offense. Can’t go to Jared Cook every play. Gotta wait and see. I love Carr the man and player but if we are moving on from him I think it’s got to be for Kyler.

On to 2018 draft. I think Miller has his ups and downs. I think we can all agree that he was solid before he hurt his knee. I never played OL past the high school level and never did it with a hurt knee so I can’t say how much that would impact me but it’s evident it did impact Miller. He did finish the year and showed some toughness and athleticism. Can he grow from year 1 to 2? Praying Cable doesn’t destroy him, but I don’t think this picks grace is anywhere near cement yet, could still be a damn good starter for us for years. I think PJ halls potential flashed this year he too got derailed by injury but he’s a quick pass rushing DT that I’m excited about Going into next year. Arden Key needs to get bigger and stronger but he is clearly a talent and gets after the passer. He needs another speed rusher on other side and needs to learn to finish his sacks, he could of had 8-10 sacks easily this year if not more but not strong enough I think he will fix that. Brandon Parker flashed too but got whipped too. Needs to get bigger and stronger. LOVE Maurice hurst, I did when we picked him and I do now after his rookie year. Townsend was horrible as a punter and I know he will have competition this off season. Need to improve that position. Marcel Ateman has the size you want in a WR, and made a couple plays when he got his chance. He needs to spend time on the jugs machine working on those hands and get a rapport down with Carr or whoever the QB is. Wouldn’t mind him filling the Andre Holmes role but we’ll see. He has to develop. UDFA eddy pinero will be there in camp I think but I think we can all agree that Daniel Carlson earned the K job.

As for our building blocks in place, on offense we have one of the best centers in the game in Hudson and a solid Guard in Jackson. Osemele wont be back I don’t think so need to add a good guard and someone good to compete at RT if Penn isn’t back. I think Jalen Richard is a good piece but can’t carry a load and I hope we don’t bring Martin back even though he was decent down the stretch. We have no building blocks at WR and that’s a problem. Need to find one or 2.

Defense this is where I’m happy with home season ended, I do think that Gareon Conley asserted him self as a legitimate number 1 CB. Dude balled second half of the year and I love how Karl Joseph came on and brought some physical play to this defense toward end of the year. We MUST build around those two guys. I do like Daryl Worley as well. I think Cabinda is nice back up but we need to find a 8-10 year starting MLB and a LB opposite of Whitehead.

Thanks for reading, and look forward to your replies

Good post. Sorry to hear about the accident and glad to hear things are looking up. We went through something similar with my daughter last March. Multiple surgeries, 3 months bed ridden... rough stuff. You learn what’s important real quick though. Let’s hope for a better 2019 all the way around.

Great summary @doug7dust. Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope your recovery continues to get better. I have to agree about Carr. He may not be the QBofF, but until we can get someone better, he's it. I'm not so enamored with Murray. We all know that college ball success does not automatically translate to NFL success. Time will tell. Again, great post.

    Hey Doug,
Glad to hear you’re on the road to recovery and back with us.....always appreciated your thoughtful posts.......this one was a solid read, anyway I think we feel similar about Carr.....the jury is still out. Hopefully Gruden can get the best out of him and he must lose the vagina in the pocket.....some of those plays this year were seriously wtf......but the bottom line is who else would we rather have that we could realistically get .......Nick Foles or Carson Wentz maybe????Trevor Lawrence in 2021? Nobody else really excites me, and that’s where the conversation should start and end for all you guys constantly complaing about Carr.......WHO IS HIS REPLACEMENT..........I know this for sure. ....give him an OLine, weapons, and a defense and he can lead a 4th quarter comeback.......I mean how many times has he proven that already........however I also know that if Jon Gruden doesn’t think he could win with him.......he’s gone........other than that We Raiders Fans are in the hands of Mark, Jon, and Mike......and for some that trio is practically a dream come true.......;)

Carr has proven he has what a lot of QBs don’t ave which is 4th quarter grit. All the good QBs have that. He does lead us back a lot, and this year year of it weren’t for him we don’t win ANY games. Maybe broncos late in year but the other 3 were damn near all him. Foles is fucking intriguing watching this eagles game right now dude has it factor but look who he has around him. He’s got 2-3 really good WRs and an all pro TE and a good offensive scheme that a lot of RBs can flourish in. I think gruden system is similar.

I think replacing Carr should be done next year. I hate this year's QBs.

Just kidding. Glad you are on the road to recovery bro. Well thought out post. Refreshing to read after all the pissing and moaning that’s been going on here the past season.

Derek Carr had better passing stats than any rookie this year and that's playing behind a shit offensive line and dogshit for wide receivers... It's amazing that he was able to accomplish that much...go ahead. draft a rookie quarterback and watch us struggle for another 5 fuckin years ..what difference does it really make anymore
