Fellas, we are at a cross roads.

Not a gloat post, not picking a fight here. I think this could be a place to discuss our options at this point?

What would your plan be right now. @NIPS always asked what the plan would be if we moved on last year. @DonkeyKilla didnt want to make a change for the sake of a change. I get it. @gst8 wanted to give him one more chance. Some guys were done 3 years ago.

    So we are here again.

Do you keep Carr and draft a guy in the mid rounds?

Do you trade him and remove the bandaid right off the hop?

Do you sign a veteran stop gap and use a first rounder to develop behind him?

Personally I don't think you can truly embrace a change with Derek in the building. It would be like keeping Mariota in Tennessee when he's lost the team, the coaches and the fans. You gotta pull the plug and have a clean break.

    So whats your plan?

Right now for ME: I evaluate the QB's and see what could be there in the middle of round one. Maybe I start exploring the idea of trading UP for a guy. It wasnt long ago that Philly and the Rams orchestrated those massive trade ups into picks 1/2 for Goff/Wents (Right or wrong both those teams made a Super Bowl in the last two years).

I 100 percent draft a guy this year though. Even if it is round 3 or a trade up into round 2. You have to have a young guy in here with some fire and who doesnt have the stink of 100 losses on him.

I like the idea of signing a stop gap and drafting someone with potential. If we don't we're going to be smelling Chief ass for the next decade.

We should be drafting a QB. If we think there is a good late first / early second rounder then trade back with our first round picks or up with our thirds. If we have any chance of getting one of the top QBs we trade both our first round picks and go all in.

We have 5 picks, loads of cap room and the core of team is young. Here are three options:

    1) Veteran- Mariota/Winston- Tenn is absolutely done with MM and TB is 50/50 done with JW. Can either be salvaged? probably not, but both could at least be better here under Gruden. Of the two, I like MM more because he's mobile. With this option, you still draft a rookie- but in the second or third round (assuming trade down for second). And you draft a guy who can sit a year and learn. Of rookie options- you're not getting Burrow, or Tua or even Herbert. But you are looking at Fromm, Love, Easton, or Hurts- all of whom would benefit from sitting for a year.

    2) Rookie- the fuck it option. Bundle the picks and take Tua- Very risky given his overall health.

    3) Trade Carr- yes, some team will take him for probably a second, load up on even more rookies. Take whoever is there of Eason, Love, Hurts, or Fromm and go with a Fitzgerald type player for a year but continue to build the rest of team and let Mayock make all the picks. This gets you potentially 7 picks in top three rounds- Even with the usual head scratching dumbass pick, you end up with ridiculous amount of young players added to a mostly young roster.

Of above- I want Option 3, followed by option 1. This assumes that Gruden can actually develop a younger player. And in today's NFL, you have to do that. You get a rookie contract and a solid team around him.

If Mayock can get a 2nd rounder for Carr, he should go in the GM Hall of Fame immediately.

I am betting someone out there who isn't able to get one of the elite guys would still give something decent for Carr.

He is good enough to trick you into looking past his flaws.

Mobile Vets available Winston, Mariotta, Bridgewater (can void I think) Bortles

    Draft?

Kizer is trash I would sign one of the above draft ? and keep Peterman

This^^^^. I’d be down for signing Mariotta and let him battle it out in the pre season with a rookie and maybe Peterman.

Maybe Gruden can find a a way to resurrect MM’s career here.

I've been thinking about this for a while.

First, it's clear that Derek Carr's time has come and gone. Six years and nada. I agree that moving him off the roster by whatever means necessary is the best way to go. Who knows what some team might offer up for him. I've been wrong about that before (see Amari Cooper)...there is always a team who would be desperate enough to give us a 2 for him. I'd jump at that. Hell, I'd take a three right now.

What kind of QB are we looking for? You need to look not further than Wilson, Jackson, Watson, Murray to find the blueprint. The NFL is changing. The last thing i want to see is some white stiff statue who can't make things happen on fourth and 1 or fourth and two because I'm convinced that is where this thing is going.

I'm not in on Tua unless he drops to day two. The guy may never be right again and we can't make a big mistake in the first round. Seems looking for an athletic guy who can make things happen is the way to go. Jackson is still suspect throwing the ball but his ability to run with the ball makes him the most dangerous QB in the league. He's not as smart as Wilson so the probability of him getting hurt is large. Maybe this Hurts guy is the kind of fiery QB we need. He can get it done with his legs and his passing ability is probably good enough.

Even though the defense needs so much help we have to look at the long term picture. Without a quarterback you really haven't got anything.

So what other QB prospects fit the mold? I have no idea. The kid from LSU seems a really good option if you're willing to use a lot of draft capital to move up (I doubt that will be the plan). Is he the athletic guy we are looking for? It seems looking for a guy who meets the criteria in the third round is the way to go. Get Carr off the roster and see if we can hit the jackpot.

Hell, Gruden is used to being on television. In the offseason, he should have a QB tryout reality show. I'm pretty sure HBO would grab that in the proverbial New York minute. We might find a diamond in the rough.

At the very least, it would be worth it to see Carr's reaction.

Fuck Carr trade him I don't care if it's for a 1st 2nd or 3rd. After that it's all above my pay grade.

I think Teddy sees the end for Brees and would prefer to stay in NO. Come to the Raiders? Heh. Why?

I think we need to both get a stopgap/potential starter and draft a guy. Guys that I would see if we can acquire in FA:
Tannehill, Bridgewater. Winston maybe. No to Mariota, that guy is straight trash, every bit as bad as Carr, worse in fact.

We aren't getting Burrow, he's going #1. I think it would be foolish to move up for Tua and his injury prone-ness. I could be wrong what if we trade our picks and he's just made of glass? no.
What I think would make the most sense is to try and trade down from one of our first rounders to pick up a 2 and see if we can get Hurts, Eason, Fromm with that second rounder, or even if we trade down to the bottom part of the first use that pick on a QB. Mid round is too high for any of these guys.

I don't like Eason. Another UW QB who's gonna be a bust in the NFL.

Jameis is a turnover machine worse than David. Besides he has some pretty good skill guys on that Buc team too and he hasn’t won shit either. He’s more like a lateral move.

Bones is right, Teddy will probably wait for Drew to step down.

Tannehill seems like a good fit in Tenn. I don’t see him leaving.

I’m all for trading down and getting a guy in the draft.
