***Official Day 3 Draft Thread***(2015)

You talk like he is limited to a two gap 5 tech spot... He'll be used as an attacking 1 tech 5 in NY's scheme, which is awfully similar to a 3tech in a 43...

Which most of the free world viewed as his get out of jail, wreck havoc best fit...
I don't disagree with either of those comments. But that apparently is not what JDR wanted (or wanted enough). We didn't draft an UT, at all, or an edge guy early. Red/JDR drafted a base end who could slide inside. Why pass on Cooper and spend a #4 pick for that if Edwards fits that role better?

JDR is just going to run a different D than you would have implemented with Williams. I'm not staying JDR's right. I'm saying Edwards' best use is a better fit for what JDR apparently wanted (at least when considering Cooper's value over a 2nd round WR like Smith).

He ballooned up because he was pigging out. But Fla St didn't seem to mind. You could see it was bad weight, if a team wants you to get bigger, its mainly thru weights, not Chilpotle. The question is, if Fla St had a weight limit on him, would he have still been undisciplined? Thats when its a problem.
Hopefully the kid grows up. JDR/Norton have given him a chance. I'm guessing they are going to ride his ass hard when/if he starts dogging it.

Can't believe we spent the 35th overall pick on a fat guy with no production. Amazing.

meatball surgery
A nickname for surgery that is meant to be performed rapidly to stabilize the patient as quickly as possible.
Amid technical innovations and changes of personnel, one thing that did not change was the MASH's basic function of performing what Capt. H. Richard Hornberger of the 8055th later called "meatball surgery." Speaking as Richard Hooker, pseudonymous author of M*A*S*H, he suggested that meatball surgery is a specialty in itself. "We are not concerned with the ultimate reconstruction of the patient. We are concerned only with getting the kid out of here alive enough for someone else to reconstruct him. Up to a point we are concerned with fingers, hands, arms and legs, but sometimes we deliberately sacrifice a leg in order to save a life, if the other wounds are more important. In fact, now and then we may lose a leg because, if we spent an extra hour trying to save it, another guy in the pre-op ward could die from being operated on too late. Our general attitude around here is that we want to play par surgery. Par is a live patient."

Round 1, Pick 11 (11) Trae Waynes CB 6'0" 186 Michigan St. 6.3

Pick Analysis: "If you're looking for a press cornerback -- and, trust me, Mike Zimmer loves his corners -- this is the guy. Waynes is very comfortable in press coverage. And, if you play defense at Michigan State, you're well-coached." -- Mike Mayock

Round 2, Pick 13 (45) Eric Kendricks ILB 6'0" 232 UCLA 5.8

Pick Analysis: "I think we can say with certainty that the Vikings like linebackers from UCLA. They drafted Anthony Barr last year and now they take Eric Kendricks. His instincts are outstanding; he can get through the trash. He will team nicely with Barr." -- Daniel Jeremiah

Round 3, Pick 24 (88) (from Lions) Danielle Hunter DE 6'5" 252 LSU 5.6

Pick Analysis: "This prospect was polarizing, positive or negative. There is no doubt he's a physical specimen with considerable upside, but he was nowhere near ready to come out of LSU. He still has to learn how to play football." -- Mike Mayock

Round 4, Pick 11 (110) T.J. Clemmings OT 6'5" 309 Pittsburgh 5.9

Pick Analysis: Vikings could look back at this pick in a year or two and realize how much of a steal Clemmings was. Injury concerns pushed him down the board but Clemmings has the athleticism to develop into a staple at left or right tackle. --Mark Dulgerian

Round 5, Pick 7 (143) (from Lions through Broncos and Bears) MyCole Pruitt TE 6'2" 251 Southern Illinois 5.2

Pick Analysis: The 2-time FCS All American showed that his skills translated well against quality competition at the Shrine Game. He lacks the athleticism and size to stretch the seams but he can contribute as a move tight end in sub packages. --Mark Dulgerian

Round 5, Pick 10 (146) (from Falcons) Stefon Diggs WR 6'0" 195 Maryland 5.5

Pick Analysis: Norv Turner should have fun plugging in this "swiss army knife" weapon into his offense. He has home run ability after the catch and adds value as a returner as well. --Mark Dulgerian

Round 6, Pick 9 (185) (from Falcons) Tyrus Thompson OT 6'5" 324 Oklahoma 5.3

Round 6, Pick 17 (193) (from Chiefs) B.J. Dubose DE 6'4" 284 Louisville 5.2

Pick Analysis: The Vikings land a scrappy leverage player who needs considerable development into a specific role. Mike Zimmer has a history of maximizing the talents of his defensive linemen so this could be a player to watch down the line. --Mark Dulgerian

Round 7, Pick 11 (228) Austin Shepherd OT 6'4" 315 Alabama 5.2

Pick Analysis: Minnesota will love Shepherd's coachability. He's a fighter who won with effort against SEC opponents. His ceiling is that of a backup as he lacks special NFL traits. --Mark Dulgerian

Round 7, Pick 15 (232) (from 49ers through Dolphins) Edmond Robinson OLB 6'3" 245 Newberry 4.9

Pick Analysis: Edmond Robinson is the first D2 player to be selected in this year's draft. He's a plus athlete with upside on the edge but there is alot of projection with this pick. --Mark Dulgerian

interesting draft... kinda All-Al.... Zimmer really swung from the fences on draft day... added alotta speed/athleticism to their D.

Good read. I feel like we hit on most of our needs, even if some didn't like the players we took. Can't wait to see Carr tossing it up to Cooper and Walford.

Yeah seems most talking heads think the same. If a RB steps up, this offense should be much better. Passing game and run D have been (on paper) improved rather nicely this off season. Just need Latavious to pick up where he left off and this team can start climbing out of the AFC West cellar.

Don't know why Richardson lost his explosion or whatever he had in college that made him a Top 3 pick, but it would sure be nice if he found it this year.
