Trying to polish the Jihad turd but it's not working. Red swung for the fences on this one. I like the KJ and Shilique picks. Draft grades so far.

    KJ. A-
    Jihad D
    Shilique B+

Hopefully no crazy surprises today. Go get the best RB, WR and ILB left on the board.

    Oakland Raiders

The Raiders have put the pieces together on the offensive side of the ball, with a very good line in front of the emerging Derek Carr, and the focus has been on defense thus far in the 2016 draft. On Friday, they added a pair of defensive lineman who were both rated higher on my board than where they landed. Jihad Ward was a first-round sleeper who they bagged at No. 44, and Shilique Calhoun is a player I, at one time, thought of as a likely first-round player, and they got him at No. 75. The defensive line now looks quite formidable. Reggie McKenzie is on a good run.

Fences? Perhaps Little League fences. Straight up need or want pick. There were basically two long DT left (Ward and Gotsis). Red/JDR had to think, now or never. The Donks did the same thing with Gotsis. He had a Day 3 projection. Oh, and Red doesn't give a shit about (recoverable) injuries.

Red's traded down as much as anyone. Yet, the last two days, teams are trading all over the place, and Red squats on all three picks. Tells me Red/JDR targeted Joseph and Jihad, and did not want to risk it, and Calhoun had too much value.

    Oakland Raiders
Draft picks: Karl Joseph (No. 14 overall), Jihad Ward (No. 44 overall), Shilique Calhoun (No. 75 overall)
    Day 1 grade: B
    Day 2 grade: B+
    Overall grade: B+
The skinny: Joseph is a very talented player who certainly deserves first-round consideration. He did miss a lot of last season over a non-contact injury, however. And was the 14th pick too early to secure his services? If he turns out to be another Earl Thomas, then the answer is a resounding "no."

In an effort to rebuild the defense, Oakland took two Big Ten defensive ends in Ward and Calhoun. Both were fair value where they were chosen, and should help the team rush the passer more effectively.

I saw one guy say Ward was going to miss the 1st 6 weeks of the season... that is one long recovery time for a scope of the knee. Every one else seems to say 6 weeks after the scope. He'll be good to go 6 weeks of watching film and lifting upper body.

Take care of it now. Kid should have done it after his pro day. But I guess too much was on the line to make news like that.

Our All-World, All-Star, Pro-Bowler at 2 different positions; and his buddy Irvin, are sitting there saying what the fuck? We got this whole QB going down shit. Our back 4 is approaching elite now. How about a true MLB?

Ward (I can't fucking stand him because of his motherfucking first name) is insurance for MEJ. And I think 2nd Round is too early to address that issue.

I'm starting to dig Calhoun. Bulk him up a little bit and play him at the other DE opposite Mack. When Aldon comes back, we got Mack, Aldon, Irvin, and Calhoun coming after the QB. HOLY SHIT!!!!

But for fuck's sake, we NEED a legit RB. We NEED to run the ball at will. Our passing game is all fancy and (dare I say high-powered?) but we can't get 3 yards when we need it. We aren't forcing teams to play 8 in the box. Wanna make Carr and Cooper and Craptree and Warford look even better? Have a legit RB and run the ball. Want to close out games in the 4th when we have a lead? Run the motherfuckin rock. And we can't do that.

We need to move up a bit this morning and go get Booker. Far and away best available rb. I had him as #2 behind Zeke. After him, the rest are backups. no better than the backup we are trotting out each Sunday in Murray.

And after that, we need to look at MLB. Scooby and Perry will go before we can pick in 5th (I don't like Perry anyway). I'm kinda high on Aaron Wallace to groom and develop behind Heeney this year. Wallace has a much higher ceiling.

If Red comes out with another get after the QB guy, I'm gonna lose my shit this morning. It's been a few years since I've thrown the remote on Draft Day. Guess I'm due...

Perry's not flashy. There are reasons he's here at Day 3. But nice size/speed, fundamentals and missing tackles aren't one of them.

YahooSports is mostly positive about our picks as well. Rhetorically asks, though, if Al is still running the draft?

I think I read somewhere that our DR's don't think the surgery is necessary.

Pretty good indicator of the Raiders' confidence in Ben Heeney that they didn't draft an ILB. They like him and he'll get a shot.
