Only the fuckin Raiders can fire an OC that had the #6 offense in the NFL and keep the DC that had the 32nd overall defense....

I have no problem with Muskrat leaving. Not a real fan of his game plans and play calling. He got some good results but that was more Carr pulling shit out of his ass .. .what 6 or 7 4th quarter comebacks? Can't keep going to that well. That shit catches up with you.

So hopefully this new dude has some tricks up his sleeve and we can figure out how to get our WRs running free in the middle of the field like other teams do to us every single week.

As for Norton. Fuck him. #Garbage

Smart QB teamed with a smart OC...or Smart QB teamed with a mediocre OC...

If you shoot for the moon, you get the top of the mountain. If you shoot for the top of the mountain, you get the bottom of the hill.

I don't know Downing, but I know Musgrave was nothing more than an average OC at best....too inconsistent. I think Derek being able to read defenses and making adjustments at the line of scrimmage, contributed more to our high placing in offensive stats moreso than Musgrave being brilliant.

Downing is 36 years old and has made his name known already. Let's see how he progresses, but my gut tells me he will be good.

Is there a better opportunity/job in the league for an offensive coordinator?.... I mean, seriously..

a young guy with a buncha ideas, getting his first real shot to run an offense... he's got to be running around with a hardon 24/7

Some of you make good points here.

I'm less upset that Musgrave is gone than the fact Norton gets to stay.

Musgrave is mediocre at best...But Norton sucks big dicks.

I've been saying this all season. Sure Norton sucks, but lets not forget Phillips took Taco's defense in denver and turned them into the scariest unit in the league overnight. If Taco is too stubborn to realize that his defense is a problem, this should and will be his undoing in a season or two.

Yup. Red better nail this draft and sign a couple quality FA's this offseason. No excuse for a defensive coach to have this shit of a unit out there.

JDR can thank Carr for this 12-4 season. Without him this is a 8-8, 9-7 team.

Without Carr we are a 4 win team at best.

Pro Football Focus Ranking of secondaries

    17. Oakland Raiders (15)
Top overall grade: CB Sean Smith, 82.5 (No. 22)

Top coverage grade: CB Sean Smith, 82.3 (No. 24)

    Top run-defense grade: S Reggie Nelson, 78.5 (No. 34)

Most snaps: S Reggie Nelson, 1,121

After a really poor start to the season, free-agent pickup Reggie Nelson played much better from Week 6 and on. Still, it didn’t match the level of play from either him or Charles Woodson (the player he replaced) in 2015. David Amerson had another 12 pass breakups this year, but his regression led to more yards and touchdowns allowed, and opposing quarterbacks’ passer rating when targeting Amerson ballooned from 66.3 in 2015 to 102.2 this year. Sean Smith had another solid season, and strong safety Karl Joseph impressed as a rookie before missing time due to injury.

Take a look at the record breaking numbers the Falcons offense put up.... then look at the numbers our offense put up.... yet we're more talented than the Falcons....

The reality is their OC is the top coaching candidate for every vacancy.... I'm not sure our OC was a candidate for a single vacancy.

We won't miss a beat without Musgrave....

On another level.... look what happened to our offense once Carr went out.... Our offense was way too dependent on Carr... i.e. we could only run when the passing game was working....

That tells me our priority is not the offense, the priority is Carr. So we promote the QB coach (who had interview offers everywhere) and see if we can get the offense to perform at the same level as has Carr been performing....

It's a big gamble.... but a gamble I'm ok with...

The defense on the other hand.... one more year of that..... really?

Not buying it. As an DC, JDR has a strong track record. In Jacksonville, JDR had strong D's too. The difference is Norton (IMO) and JDR's desire to be HC (not DC).

Let's not act like Rat Jr. did anything special either. The Falcon offense since Julio has been there has been prolific. Mike Smith did have that team 14-2 3 years ago mainly with Ryan, Julio. Roddy White, and a bunch of dudes who were either over the hill on defense or no names on offense.
