Musgrave

Every LB this team has trotted out this year is a backup. Riley is a borderline starter- but only b/c every other LB on on this team is so bad. Heeney and Smith shouldn't be starting. In fact, Smith is becoming the Hayden of LBs- one decent play now and then, followed by mostly bad plays at the wrong time. Red made a mistake cutting Toomer. I'd keep a few of these guys for depth/special teams, but look for two starters next year- one in draft and one in FA.

Yeah...the Toomer thing is a headscratcher.

I think Musgrave's growing into the job in his own right... without checking I'm guessing he's never had a student as dedicated and in possession of an elite arm combo that Carr has... that probably helps Musgrave have success no doubt... I mean, Carr essentially gives all the tools to work with, he's just has to learn the tweaks that work the very best for his QB, but nice to have one that can learn anything and throw anything.

I dunno if we've done it yet, but Tice deserves some real props... sure he has lots of quality to work with, but he's given this squad a nasty attitude and he's able to plug in UDFA's and get production... rotate tackles with success... he's got this group ultra confident and totally believing in the system and eachother... without being an expert, I'm just gonna go ahead and declare Tice an NFL, O-line, American badass, coach.

Finally, I think we have to give Jack Del Big Brassy Ones for putting this offensive coaching staff together... it's working quite well for a defensive headcoach.

Which brings us to Sunny Jim himself... props to Mark for overruling Red on Sparano(tough call there, no doubt:D)and going with JDR

Agree re: Tice and Musgrave. Tice can coach them up, and yes, he has some talent to work with but he's done real well with this group. I wouldn't hate it if we spend even more capital on the o-line, both b/c of Penn's age, and the RT situation. A great o-line covers a lot of deficiencies, and a good use of resources.

I have to agree that Smith is a good utility guy to keep around... that is if we can't find someone equally effective that might have a better future of course...
I thought I heard one of the talking heads yesterday say Musgrave removed 30% of his playbook this year in the interest of doing the other 60% efficiently. It's working. The penalties are even down. Now if he'd just remove some of the horizontal stuff and replace it with a little more vertical and slant stuff, I'd be one happy camper.

nobody bats 1.000... Toomer is wracking up tackles in Sandy Eggo... that's a bitch

Yep. He played well this pre-season as well for Raiders. Just don't get what team was thinking with Heeney at MLB, with no contingency plan.

How bout Alexander? Don't he play for Buffalo? Although I did hear he dropped 30lbs cause he knew it was his last chance.0

Or if I'm the joke and this is all one excruciatingly long, drawn out preface with no punchline in sight because sitting through the joke, waiting for the punchline, is the punchline.

I fucking love those jokes. I use one I ripped from Penn Gillette about Siamese twins and Julio Iglesias. Only one person has ever laughed at it but I have laughed every single time. Love it!

That guy just came the fuck out of nowhere.

Seems like I read something (maybe here) where someone in the Bills organization said, straight up, they signed the guy to be a STer. Injuries on defense forced him into the lineup. Otherwise, he may have never become more than an afterthought.

How the hell does a guy just randomly become a fucking sack artist after however many years of being precisely not that?

Man, that needle is the truth.

Pretty sure that makes you an asshole.

But go to YouTube and search "penn Siamese twins"

The joke is fucking hysterical.

Musgrave possible interview for Oregon Ducks job?

The Ducks are expected to interview other candidates in the school's search for a replacement for former coach Mark Helfrich, a source said. Among the possible candidates include Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck, Florida coach Jim McElwain, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who played quarterback at Oregon.

The Ducks would prefer to have a new coach in place by early next week, a source said.

I have mixed feelings about this...
Seems like an odd move for a career NFL OC and QB coach who has never recruited anyone and has little personality and outward emotion.

Depends on his level of ambition, I guess. How badly does he want to have the title of "Head Football Coach"?

Badly enough to disrupt a playoff contender's first relevant season in 14 years?

Could be.

Just can't imagine a star HS recruit picking Musgrave over Myers or Harbaugh or even Mora.

Oh, from the school's perspective, yeah. I'd agree Musgrave is an odd choice. But if they came calling...
