I'm bored. (Dad jokes)

Taking any type of head med for an extended period of time, then having to stop taking it basically all at once... If that's what happened here, I can understand why her mind went a little caca. It's a fucking rough, discombobulating feeling. I can testify to that.

*I don't know that this is what happened. I'm just riffing off what you said that someone else said.
I think everyone would agree with that

Never would have guessed you've had experience with head meds.

We all got our head meds. A pint of bourbon makes my head hurt a bit the next day, but sets me right from stress for a week or so after. Sometimes a long bike ride or swim is the thing to do instead. You strike me as the libertarian type. What a fellow does to get by should be no concern of yours provided they show up and do their job.

You'll get there. Admitting there's a problem is the first, hardest step.

What makes you think I'm concerned ? Have no idea what type of job he has or even if he works. Don't really care either. Not surprised he's had experience with head meds is all I said. Whatever gets him through the night is fine with me.

I've coached various sports in my life. One rule that doesn't get bent or broken anywhere I've been is that nobody is allowed to coach 1 on 1. Not me or any assistant that may work under me. There is not a situation where a coach needs to work individually with an athlete period. It seems like common sense but I've heard too many stories where bad shit happens.

That's not really realistic for high level sports. My kid worked with a personal trainer her entire youth sports career albeit on a soccer field so I was free to hang out and observe as much as I chose. But there is no way to get to elite status without working on skills individually and most parents aren't qualified to provide that level of expertise. Especially in sports like gymnastics. You just have to be diligent.

Why can't one of the parents be there? There should be another adult in the room. The purpose isn't having two coaches. It's not letting one coach have unfettered access to a kid.

Ideally, yes... although it's a fine line between that and helicopter parents. Practically speaking it's not always feasible logistically with working parents and such. 99.9 percent of coaches are great people. Like 99.9 percent of teachers, 68.354 percent of priests, etc. You can take reasonable precautions but a parent cannot reasonably protect their child from every potential opportunity for something bad to happen. Honestly I'd be more worried as a coach in that situation than I would be as a parent. I don't even meet with female employees at work 1v1.

I think the onus is on the coach. I completely agree that you can't as a parent protect your kids from everything. However, an organization can and should protect itself and its members. Having an assistant coach or even an older student present isn't that hard to accomplish. I agree that 99.99% of the time it's unnecessary.

Agreed but usually personal training is kind of a side hustle and not through the club/organization.

Youth sports culture in general is bizzaro world though. It's hard to apply logic in a setting where it goes out the window.

Even on a national scale it's a pretty small world though.

Because the kids will look at the parents and not pay attention to the coach? My son is on the verge of a wrestling scholarship, he’s spent hours one on one with different coaches. When I’m in the wrestling room he will literally watch me while the coach is talking and during his moves.

I’m often not far away, I’ll work out in the weight room or be on the stair master near by.
