I’ve seen this place more excited coming off 2-14 seasons.
I’ve tried but gut punches keep coming. Lol
Being 4 years after a super bowl appearance is quite different than 1 winning season in 18 or 19 years. (I lost count tbqh)
No worse place to be than treading water at 8-8 or so and hoping all the luck can fall your way so you can sneak into the first round of the playoffs.
That line has been said about teams in every major professional sport around. Thats why the word "tanking" is a thing. Thats why there is likely some real energy in places like Jax or NYJ.
At least at 2-14 you are likely going through coaching/QB/GM changes to excite the fanbase. Early draft picks, tons of cap space etc.
We literally took our .500 squad slapped a coat of paint on it and said "looks good!" and will roll with this same shit for a couple more seasons lol.
Nobody’s tanking when you are opening up a new stadium. Last year was set up well then CV19 and reality of G and bad picks and FA signings hit. I was hoping for a Wilson/Watson reboot. But we are in store for more of the same against an increasingly good AFC.
We are in year 4 of this rebuild and still basically treading water. Gruden traded away our best asset for draft picks and we did absolutely nothing with them. Horrible drafting and FA signings and here we are. Phins were basically able to retool within 2 years and now they are sitting on a shit load of draft capital.
Did we though?
Our offensive line does not seem improved. Our secondary hasn’t even been touched. Our interior defensive line feels a lot like the boat they made out of FlexSeal. Maybe it will work in perfect conditions long enough to make a commercial... but we all know it’s probably going to sink.
Every team was dealing with Covid so can't use that as an excuse. I think the defense will be improved somewhat under Bradley but we still have glaring holes at every position.
So, “all in”?
Really? The Phins are now the model? Trade with a fool, play in a desirable location for a rich owner, then luck into a stacked QB class? Lol
I was talking about the run-up to opening a new stadium, and why we weren’t in tank mode. Had we known about CV19 and how poorly the picks and FA signings would perform in G’s D, maybe we do things differently. But we aren’t changing courses now with a stadium still to open.
What’s with it about the “excuse” trope? Get over it already. It’s not always about that. Lol
Yannick and Irving are going to crush it. We will sign a vet CB and midget Robinson, Arnette, Abram and Mullen will play like the prospects we thought they were (better than the horseshit they left on the field last year). We will land one impact defender in the draft (hopefully two FA/OLB). We will nail our RT pick and Richie, James and Simpson will pleasantly surprise.
Jon will pull his head from his ass and the O will look like a top 10 O in the redzone, not just between the 20’s. Mariota will get spot duty to make the O more dynamic, especially if the OL is struggling to protect Carr. Waller, Jacobs, Drake will earn their paychecks. Ruggs, Edwards, Brown, Renfrow and Snead will continue to provide open targets.
We are the Browns.
That's pretty generous
Buncha fucking crybabies.
QB room: Carr had his best year; Mariota got healthy and looked good; best QB room heading into a season since Gannon.
RB room: Year 3 Jacobs just got a wake up call and will be motivated and play more like he did as a rookie and be stronger at the finish. Drake will not be Charlie Garner but will be the closest to that since he was here. With Ingold and whoever we field as our #3 RB, this group could comprise our best RB room since Marcus and Bo, but at least since Charlie, Wheatley and our short-yardage stud was here.
TE room: Waller. Nuf said. But we’ll also see the successful return of Moreau and his 5 TD rookie performance. Best TE room since Todd and his mates.
WR room: Ruggs, Edwards, Brown, Renfrow, Snead. GTFOOH with all the bitchin and moaning. That’s a dynamic, steady and solid room. Dial up spread and double deep, double TE, and/or double RB formations. Nightmare to plan for.
OL room: Out with the old (save the crazy MF Richie) and in with the new (Miller, James, Simpson, Rookie). We have depth with Good, Martin, Parker, Rookie. Got to hope it can’t be worse than last year’s 27th ranked run-blocking unit, and can resemble a top 15 pass blocking unit. Looking at you Cable, Gruden, Carr and Mariota.
Edge: Yannick, Crosby, Nassib, Key. Say what you want about Nassib’s fit and Key’s inability to finish, Yannick and Crosby give us our best pass-rushing dual in, like, forever.
Closed-end: Ferrell, Irving, Dickerson. I’m excited about this position group — both in the base 4-3 and in NASCAR packages. Depending on the match-up, Ferrell can rush the QB from the edge as well.
NT: Hankins and Jefferson are solid in doing their jobs. We had nothing behind Hankins last year after cutting PJ. Add McNeil in the draft and I’m happy.
3-Tech: Hurst, Solomon, Philon, Vickers. Yes, a wing and a prayer. Two stud college players and two walk ons the coaches like. It’s now or never in S&B for both Hurst and Solomon.
LB: Littleton, Kwiatkoski, Morrow, White, Muse(?). Nothing to write home about but on paper (perhaps going back a year) still better than what we have fielded in years. Add a stud rookie OLB, the LB room is cooking with bacon.
S: Rookie (x2?), Abram, Heath, Muse(?), Leavette. Gus has started rookie FS before with success, and he’ll get the best out of Abram, who has no business being out of the box in coverage deep. This unit will surprise the haters.
CB: Easy peazy—Mullen, Arnette, and Johnson will fit Gus’s scheme. Robinson will find himself and play effectively too. We will add a vet and rookie or two to compete and fortify this unit. Lawson will get one-third the snaps he got last year.
Yeah, we are far more mediocre than the Browns.
This franchise is 89-95 Sacramento Kings. Not bad enough to stack the top 5 picks like the Browns did. Not good enough to sniff the playoffs.
Just sickeningly mediocre. Spinning wheels in the mud.
The brown have had 2 winning seasons since 2002. We have had 1. We both have 1 season making the playoffs. The Browns have 1 playoff win and we have had 0 since 2002. The Browns have gone 1-15 and 0-16. Pretty comparable imo.
