becasue there is no such animal in the NFL?
Barkevious Mingo maybe.... that worked out well..
Fugger beat me to it
Cravens at 6'1''/226 lb. has some size.
Feeney is a former safety. Could probably do it no problem. He was Kikaha's replacement this year but he can do other things.
Special teamer of the year. Adds to his value...
Probably a really nice pick for us actually @Byron2112
It's crazy how we have the roster now to actually take a chance on a potential freak. Al Davis would get slaughtered for that.
Reggie better grab one at #44 or (#51 with an additional 2nd round pick in a trade down).
could easily take care of our TE coverage problems anyway...
Takes care of Sleet and my H/W/S boner too
How much coverage ability are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of a few hard licks, though?
Are you talking about Thompson?
I don't think he's as good in coverage as most.
3rd or 4th rounder being propped up by a shit class.
3rd or 4th? That might be him being propped up at that.
If we could snag Joseph I'd be excited about him teaming with Nelson. Don't see us taking him at 14 though or him dropping to our 2nd.
In general. Your point was that he wasn't a thumper, and with our current secondary, someone "different" might be preferable. I assume by different, you meant an enforcer type.
I really don't like many of the SS in this draft:
Cash seems decent but will probably be gone by time we pick in the 2nd round.
Joseph looks like a true stud SS but damn, he is never going to play 16 games in a season. He might be out of the league within 5 years due to injuries.
Not a fan of Bell at all. I think he's another overrated Ohio defender. Seems miscast as a SS as he's a horrible tackler.
Killabrew runs fast without pads but I just don't see that speed on the field. He appears to lack the instincts necessary to play SS. He can hit but he just has no clue what's going on around him.
Kearse just looks like a tall skinny guy trying to play Safety. He's just never looked impressive when I've watched him. If his last name wasn't Kearse he wouldn't even be talked about.
All that being said, I think Dillon in the 4th (hopefully even 5th) would be better value than dropping a 2nd on any SS not named Cash.
Agreed. I think at least one, but likely two, of Lee, Cravens, Cash and Joseph will be there at #44. And I'm all for Dillon in the 5th. I prefer Vigil, ILB, in the 4th. If we miss out on Lee, Cravens, Cash or Joseph, or go in a different direction, Red may have to take Vigil and Dillon earlier to address two of our three remaining needs.
Yeah I gotcha.
I think Thompson is a center field roamer type. Reggie and Nate both do that with varying levels of success.
I think we could use a real freak athlete at SS or a big time enforcer.
Like others said though we probably need both?
Hopefully not a stupid penalty generator.
I keep hearing about Joseph's injury history, wasn't the guy an ironman until blowing out his knee in practice?
Edit- just looked it up, started every game three years in a row before blowing out his knee this year. How does this shit get started?
Can we assume we are taking some safety in the 2nd?
It wouldn't surprise me if we reach for one at 14 depending on how the draft falls. Or trade back for one.
