I know I'm not alone in thinking he's played like unwiped ass lately.

It seems to be the majority opinion here.

PFF says he's balling. That's puzzling, but PFF scoring gets really queer sometimes. Not sure how that works.

Now Duke Manyweather, the O-line guru on the twitter, is singing his praises.

What the fuck are they seeing that we're not?

I'm sure he's had a lot of good plays. That's not being disputed, at least by me. But has he or has he not been getting pushed around, knocked down, flagged and overall looking like a guy who's struggling?

Is Duke a PFF scorer? What the shit is happening?

His very solid first half has made us a little spoiled so when he does have a bad moment it sticks out more. He's still a very solid lt. Just had a few memorable bad plays the last few weeks. I do think we need to plan for a post penn future. But at the same time he's a good option to protect Derek another year.

Well, if Lang is willing to admit he's slipped a little, we now know he must be playing poorly. :D

Eh the line as a whole slipped since Hudson went down. Webb has been a below average but good enough player. Howard was solid but unspectacular. Jackson started strong but i think like last year his play is slipping as the season goes. Hudsons injury has slowed him some but we play better with him in there. Feliciano has been ok. I need to rewatch and key on him.

Part of the problem is Derek has developed a bad habit of running to the lg and c part of the pocket then getting sacked. Earlier in the year he'd throw it away. I don't know what changed.

So you're saying we have major upgrades to do on the OL?

I have no idea who that Duke or Lang guys are, but it's been hard to miss how Penn has struggled against power... Wouldn't surprise me if it comes out later that he has some kind of back issue going on... If so, back issue + age normally isn't a good combination for a player... I like what he brings as far as attitude and leadership, but it would be wise to invest in the future even if we bring Penn back... The development of Carr is tied in with the confidence he has in the guys protecting him and I can't imagine the sight of an OT being knocked back on his ass being a confidence builder...

Our Plan B to Penn should include something other than Matt McCants or continuing to put faith in the "if's" of Menelik Watson... If the chance of Cordy Glenn does present itself somehow, we should be all over it... LT is arguably one of the three most important positions in the NFL along with QB and LT and should be treated as such by us even if we haven't done so in the past at times...

QB, LT and pass rusher are arguably the most important positions in pro football, so our Plan B to Penn should include something other than Matt McCants or continuing to put faith in the "if's" of Menelik Watson... Agree 100%.

With all the cash Red has to spend, telling that Red has not resigned Penn during the season. Guessing Red will let Penn find his market value, then resign. Just don't see Penn going anywhere. But who knows . . . other than Red.

Hopefully Mike Tice has major say in who we sign and draft in the offseason. Reds track record with OL hasn't been exactly stellar. Like HB alluded to, Carrs development is going to be tied directly to the success of the horses in front of him.

There really isn't shit in FA for LTs so we either draft a guy in round 1 or take a more developmental guy to learn behind Penn in earlyish rounds I think. I wonder though if Reggie is stubborn enough to think he can rely on Watson though...
At any rate with the way FA looks like it is going to play out our secondary has the chance to be addressed via FA and our OL does not.

I'd re-sign Penn AND try and find an upgrade. But if we need to focus on one position group… we need like 3 starting DB's. Id make sure we handle that this offseason before anything else. Id rather see Penn for another year than Mays, Allen, Hayden, Bing, Gibson, Dorsett or Hiram Eygene type players stinking up this roster

I would re-sign Penn no matter what our draft plan is.

I don't see that on film.

How the hell do you miss it?

I gotta learn to make vines and shit. Like "Really? Here ya go. Have another. Oh, and you'll wanna see this one. Check out this hold. He really got worked there, eh?"

Puzzling, man.
