Defensive End/ Edge Thread

Josh Allen is a freak and he's raw as hell. Every coach is salivating to coach this kid up because he's still a ball of clay. He had 17 fucking sacks with like two moves. His athleticism showed during the Combine. Great effort and his timed speed matches his game speed. Anyone who says 'well he doesn't have many pass rush moves...' makes me laugh. That's a very coachable thing. Mack didn't have many moves either when he got here but he learned pretty quick.

Isn’t that what they said about The Bruce? And he was a Tier 1 pass rushing prospect. I like Allen’s college production and size more than his athleticism, though his athleticism is solid.

funny I've been watching Allen film all night... I really like him... he's produced something like 40 TFL, 30 sacks and 10-11 FF... he's a stud.

I actually think one of the things I like about him is he can play LB if we choose to have him put in some time there now and then... I know guys here want him rushing the passer always, but he's actually a good LB, and we don't have much going there... also like that he's a chess piece we can move around and rush from anywhere.. standing, hand in the ground.. whatever... I feel like him along with a more tradition always DE gives us alotta options and alotta different ways to attack that fucking chef offense..

I dunno why teams ahead of us would pass, but I'd be happy to add him... I read some draft where they had the 9ers drafting Bosa and they called him an OLB..? I don't get it.. or why you wouldn't just take Allen there.. :wtf1:

Bruce was like 6'3 245lbs coming out of college and didn't have near the length that Allen has. Allen is 6'5 260lbs with some room to fill out. Bruce was considered a surprise pick at 15 that year and Allen is kind of unanimously a top 3 pick. Bruce was a tier or two lower than Allen as a prospect to me. He seemed to be projected more in the late 1st/early 2nd range and the Seahawks 'reached' for him at 15. Allen kind of reminds me of a bigger Jason Taylor... I think he's going to be a really good player once he develops and reaches his full potential.

Josh with some pro coaching.

You need to learn your Waldo too. My reference was to Bruce’s explosion index and your statement that pass rushing was a skill that can be taught. Bruce shows that is not really the case. You repeated my praise for Allen’s size and college production.

Mack literally rag dolls offensive linemen.

Can Allen do that?

One thing I love about Allen is he is a bonafide leader and will be one of the hardest working dudes in the league. He's been fun to watch grow throughout his college career. Just my feeling on him because I love the guy. I'm confident he'll keep growing, developing moves, and turn into a force off the edge.

RF standing on the table for Allen!

:koolaid:

You're comparing two prospects that get the job done in different ways. As prospects Mack had better power, Allen has better bend around the edge. Mack is great and I don't think Allen is on that level but he's going to be a very good NFL player.

Are you just realizing now that he's been considered a top 3 prospect since the bowl games? I'm not exactly touting some low level prospect here.

I actually really like the idea of adding Allen at #4 and Tillery at #24/#27.

No. He just hasn’t been a top 3 prospect for me.

Just bringing it up with regard to pass rushing repertoire. Pretty much everything Mack does centers around his ungodly strength for his size. It sets up everything else. I just don’t think Mack is a reasonable example of what we could expect from Allen’s pass rush development.

I’m not saying people don’t become better pass-rushers in the pros. I’m sure there are plenty of examples. I’m just not a fan of banking on it. Allen, though, has college production.

Allen, Bosa, W, Oliver. Would be happy with any of them, hope we don’t fuck this up.

But Jeremiah must be a moron because he’s got Gary at number 10. I’m told he’s not even a first rounder.

Allen’s not my first choice. He’s taller/longer than Bruce and could possibly develop into a better DE. The best thing about Allen, he’s not Gary or a QB, though.

The thing I like about Allen is his versatility. He can play the run and also drop back in coverage. He gives Guenther some options. If he can develop an inside/power move like Khalil, he is going to be a stud.
