Defensive Backs Thread

Long was better two years ago than last season. But he is a solid man CB who should stick in the NFL with those athletic traits to boot.

Murphy is my fave as well actully. Love that guy. I actually like a couple of the bigger guys in round 2/3 next though, JoJuan Williams and Justin Layne.

I would flip the script though if you want a safety, why not one who is actually good in coverage? Adderley/Thornhill/Savage have all played slot corner/boundary corner and deep safety. I see them being able to play with Karl Joseph a little easier no?

Like I said I like Abrams, his highlight real is super awesome. But he plays too close to the LOS and is too similar a player to Karl Joseph. I don't see the fit.

Especially if the plan is to play Joyner at slot corner. I would want a center fielder type I think.
For all the hype about Greedy, he’s really not that great of an athlete. Just a weak CB class at the top. This is where having an extra 2nd round pick would come in handy.

Do you think Murphy's that guy? I keep wanting to love him but he seems just... okay. He'll play in the pros but I don't see a difference maker. He'll have some decent plays and get picked on at times. I don't know if I spend a first rounder on him.
Agreed. I think even less of Baker.

Writing up why
@PFF
is so high on CB David Long. Went looking for why others are low on him & pretty much every list of negatives reads: - undersized - rarely played zone - bad run D If a CBs biggest knocks aren’t related to how he actually covers WRs, he’s probably pretty good

I think Baker gets a pass for his terrible tackling. Him and Greedy are both business men when it comes to tackling. But his coverage is sound and he never gave up a TD to all those talented WR's he faced. Baker is battle tested and has good tape. Im guessing he is a staring CB in the NFL for most of his career.

Greedy = man corner. Murphy = zone Baker = a little of both. I actually think all three will be solid, but if Greedy ends up with the right team.... He'll be the best of the bunch.

I’ll take none of them in the 1st for 100 Alec.

I don't really want a first round CB but didn't Greedy run a 4.37? That's pretty damn athletic.

At some point you have to see the guy has NFL length, speed and for the most part has been one of the better college CB's the past few years. Certainly worse picks we could make at 27, and I am not sure you can find higher upside at pick 27 if you tried.

Gruden stated at the Combine that he wanted CBs that could cover and play the run

Greedy isn’t the most willing tackler

Tackling - Fails to wrap up ball carriers multiple times on tape. Footwork in his tackling is a mess, as he doesn’t gather or buzz his feet. Occasionally will ankle-bite with decent explosiveness, tripping up the ball carrier.

Run Support - Generally uninterested, lacking physicality, aggressiveness and technique in his run fits. Too often fails to disengage from blocks. Will take risks with his run fits and give up the edge.

What are your thoughts on Trayvon Mullen outta Clemson? I think he could be a solid NFL starter. 6’1”, 200lbs, 4.41 40. Playmaker...
Solid selection at #35?

Some of the best CB's in the NFL are not the most athletic guys at the position.
Sure.

What’s your point?

Doesn’t make me want Greedy, Murphy or Baker in the 1st round.

No. Justin Layne in the 2nd, ideally in a trade down. Bunting is interesting too. David Long in the 3rd.
