Coach Gruden Part II

He's an NFL coach. They all think they're just a notch below God. I'm sure he came in thinking that he could work miracles.
I disagree. He knew it was going to be a rebuild before he signed on. And Mark was told this by Jon before he hired Gruden. Mark would have to sign off on Gruden’s plan because it would involve more losses and sucking before any winning starts.

No you don't sign a 33 year old WR 13 million guaranteed to go with your 25 million dollar QB and your 10 million dollar head coach that's not how you rebuild that's a win now plan (albeit a bad one)

You do that if you think that 33 year old WR can help your 24 year old WR learn how to perform and prepare in the NFL.

Yep, Jon either underestimated how bad Carr is or overestimated his ability to fix him. I'm sure he also didn't come into this thinking he was trading his best defensive player either. Kind of reminds of the David Blatt situation in with the Cavaliers a couple of years ago in reverse. He took the job under the premise he would be developing a young team built around Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins but by the time the season started they had signed LeBron, traded for Kevin Love, and were championship or bust. Hopefully Gruden adapts better than Blatt did.

Yeah the one where you don't throw to him, then try desperately and publicly to trade said WR away, yep 14 million for that genius plan.

It has been pretty humiliating for Jon Gruden to far.

People (myself included) note the crappy roster, but J. Del Rio (who isn't exactly Vince Lombardi) went 18-14 with a very similar roster in the two previous years before Jon arrived.

D. Carr had a career year in '16 -- but is now playing like one of the worst starters in the league.

The team is on pace to be perhaps the worst team in the NFL.

Nice going, Jon?
The 2017 Raiders lost their last 4 games and looked pathetic in doing so, with the offense failing to break 20 points in any of those games, and only breaking 15 once. The warning signs for a similar faceplant were there this year but our hope of Gruden having a magic touch were unfortunately off base. This team needed gutting and we might as well rip the bandaid off and take our lumps now.

That's what I said when Red came in. And I don't trust Gruden to do any meaningful roster building. I can't see an established GM or one who's hoping to make a name for himself coming here, knowing that Gruden's contract is longer than his and that Gruden will have a bigger say.

I don't think I've ever been this pessimistic about the team's future.

If Gruden could run past 8 yards he wouldn't throw to him either.
What I meant is Gruden is not telling Carr not to throw Cooper the ball. It's the useless QB who can't see the open receiver or doesn't even bother to look because he's too damn scared to get hit.

It's obvious that you HATE Gruden. That's fine. But don't let that hate lead to irrational thinking.

On this I agree totally, so to resolve the problem by trading the wide receiver is ass backwards and a sign he should not be coaching if he gives up this fast.

If you're a Raider fan he's serving you ass kicking every week that shit is gonna get old. This seems self inflicted to prove a petty point, I'm tired of losing

This is not a receiver problem
-007 since 2015

Jalen fucking Richard leads our team in TARGETS. That is not scheme or playcalling.

Trade or dump the real problem. Then evaluate the skill positions properly.

Although Amari deserves a chance somewhere else. I'd be happy as shit if he got a chance to escape this shit show so Carr could throw to Richard and Roberts 20+ times a game and we wouldnt have to hear about his production problem.

Al is sitting in the hereafter with singed eyebrows and roasting marshmallows going these motherfuckers are going to hate him as much as I did by the time he's done.

Gruden reminds me of a poor man's Shanahan. With Shanahan, at least he could still evaluate offensive talent though, something Jon can't even do. However, they both lived off of lightning that they caught in a bottle 20 years ago, and people kind of overlook that they largely suck as head coaches otherwise.

Like @Crow said, have any of you considered his coaching or lack there of? Not how clever it is supposed to be but whether it works or not? His offenses move well enough ...always has. They just don't score a lot and that's not necessarily a personnel now problem. That's a Gruden problem most of his career. Just 22 ppg for a long time of him play calling, and we're consistently not even hitting that this year. Kind of why I wanted a real OC to have options there.
