CB's- 2018

I don’t know Derwin doesn’t seem to have great speed or hips and he’s never made a pick in his career.

I think he could be a good safety, but if I’m completely honest I think he would be a 3rd round pick if he went to Arkansas instead of FSU. I’ve heard of him for years just like Jalen Ramsey, but one guy stood out and the other didn’t.

EDIT: FSU not Alabama. Late night posting.

Word is that Denzel Ward is gonna be one of the fastest players in the draft. Pushing to run a 4.3

I wonder if the Raiders will think they can recreate Jax (Ramsey/Bouye) stating with two young cheap CB's. Id personally take a DT or Edge here and generate pass rush (make our DBs look better). But hard to ignore that the team will have the option to cheaply fix the CB position (potentially) with two young stud CBs. Gonna be a major consideration there. Luckily there are a few good round 2 guys. ex. C.Davis (Auburn) who may slide into round 1. But there will be someone there early round 2 as well. Hopefully we wait until 3+

TLDR: 4.3 CB dash... Better be glad Al isnt still drafting for us.

I see the run stopping for sure. Hard to get a read on his pass coverage skills. Some people are saying he could play CB. Doubtful, but I'm guessing he goes as high as his pass coverage will allow. If he can really cover he looks top 15 easy.

The hype WAS crazy. Im wondering if it picks back up and comes full circle. He is gonna be a tough call for some GM.

I do think he is an enforcer type in the run game and can rush the passer bigtime for a DB. Looks like a LB. Can he cover WRs tho? Can he play deep in the box and not let anyone get behind him? I dunno.

Curious what our resident FSU fans think. The silence is deafening haha

He has a pick (at least one). I saw one in the three games I watched. (vs Syracuse he makes an awesome INT, drops another one later)

Trying to go in relatively blind. Skipping the write ups and highlight tapes until I watch 3 games. So I dont accidentally regurgitate and look for certain things.

I didn't see the James hype at first. But he was always in position and making wrap up tackles. Pass rush was there. Versatile, but can he cover in the NFL. Million dollar question. People RAVE about his athleticism. I wonder if its hype or real. Was that injury slowing him down temporarily or did he lose a step? Maybe he is a long strider tho, because he is 6'4 or some shit. He doesn't look NFL fast, but I also didnt see him chasing or looking slow tho. Weird.

Gem from @PFF_Mike: Minkah Fitzpatrick only played 13 snaps at perimeter cornerback in 2017. https://t.co/3JZhXTIZky

I watched Minkah Fitzpatrick's first nine games and wrote a little about him earlier in the year. Only time I really remember him losing outside was that Auden Tate TD. https://t.co/pK2alr2pUt

I'm still in the mindset of tossing late round picks at the DB position and going the FA route again. Unless a DB slips to us in the 2nd-4th round I'm just willing to throw shit at the wall and see if it sticks.

I think we need a veteran corner who can move around a bit. If we are dumping Amerson and Smith. Say Carrie signs elsewhere...

Not a lot of veteran corner help on this roster lol.

I agree, that's why I'm all for a guy like Patrick Robinson, or maybe EJ Gaines.

Highlight tape.

Lays some big hits. Seems really quick and has long speed too.

DJ HAYDEN ALERT. Doesn't turn and look for the ball on any of those deep throws. Running step for step on the deep passes, but never locates the ball. Maybe thats on purpose, but NFL WR's will wait until the last second to throw their hands up for a catch. He is waiting to react and swipe. The good news is he is super sticky in coverage. He does look to make plays on the ball all the time underneath and outside. Just looks weird on deep balls.

Highlight tape tho. Juts wanted to see some big plays. He seems like a "football player" tho, not just fast.

Some of that not getting the head around can be coaching philosophy. I straight up don't like it and if he is one of those guys that can't do it I don't want anything to do with him.

He does it on deep balls only. Its weird. He makes plays when the ball is in front of him. Lots of broken up passes etc

Just seems content to be all up close toWR and get in the way. He is very aggressive with his swatting and shit when the ball gets there.

I worry that he will draw some PI penalties. Also weird they never use hands at the LOS

I agree- Sean Smith sure seemed to have turned the corner and was playing solid ball when Pagano took over- He might b a better option to just keep him. Hopefully Conley steps up and proves his high draft pick and starts opposite- Amerson is a good decent backup/nickle.. But yeah.. Take a stab late in the rounds with guys like Dawson, Nichols etc...

Sean Smith isn't going to help us when he's in prison... or at a minimum suspended.

Would not surprise me if Raiders selected him. They just interviewed him

.@HokiesFB CB Brandon Facyson is, in my opinion, one of the best players here at the #ShrineGame. Showed it all practice today. Favorite of mine since last year. Long, physical, great engagement tech, finishing vs. interior routes. He’s going to be a good NFL CB. #VirginiaTech

What do you guys think of Darius Philips?

He's kinda one a my pet players... converted WR, so he's learning the position, but this guy just makes plays... 12 int's in his three seasons on D... he also has a knack for scoring TD's... he has 5 interceptions and 1 fumble returned for TD's... also 5 kickoffs and a punt... kind of an Adoree Jackson, he can fly

He's not as big as our traditional corner at 5'10 and 190-ish(probably lighter)... one thing I like is Western Michigan is a program on the rise(kinda like Mississippi State).. to have the kinda season they had you gotta have good players, and it's starting to show in the draft... they're a team that's on my radar for sure.

I'm thinking 4-5th round... we need guys that make plays in our secondary and on specials.... desperately

I'm confused? How can they all be the best? Hmmm

Guenther got a lot of mileage out of Pac-Man so I don’t see the size thing as an issue.

I am, however, leery of a CB being billed as the “TD Machine”...
