So as we all know recreational cannabis is now legal on California and a growing number of states. I'm considering investing in a company (cultivation) since we are in the very early stages of legalization. Thinking of going the convertible note route instead of a loan . I'm going for the long game. A few things are sort of worrying me:

A - the feds
That elf Jeff Sessions is still stuck in the 50s when it comes to marijuana and it doesn't help that it's still a schedule 1 drug

B - The taxes
Was reading that the taces.combined can be as high as 44%!!! That's nuts

C - The black market
Alot of buyers may turn back to the black market due to the high taxes. But I'm hearing Oregon and Colorado leveled out a bit as far as the taxes

Is anyone else here considering jumping into the green industry or is already in it or just got some good advice for a brotha? :D

If I tagged you and you don't care less for it I apologize in advance!

I'd definitely be worried about that cock sucker Jeff Sessions. This administration does not seem to care at all about the will of the people or what is right, just look at net neutrality. I'm not any kind of expert but I would not be surprised if Sessions pushed for some kind of crackdown. It might be kind of under the radar like all the ICE raids we don't necessarily hear about, but as a visible entity it's very easy for them to find you. I guess you need to consider if you want to operate your livelihood with that possibility...

Here's the thing tho. Trump is more open when it comes to marijuana than the elf. Which is why people are calling on him to fire him. Gahhhh

I have a horrible feeling that this tax & spend state is going to make it next to impossible to make a living in the cannibas market. I'm sure tbere will money to be made but the underground market will survive due to tbe heavy taxation. That being said the price per pound underground currently is at a all time low. I know that in El Dorado County you can't even start a legal enterprise due to some kind of mandate, yet the price per pound is still low.
If you were to find and invest in a large market area like the bay area there might be some quick money to be made.

Nephew talked me out of investing in marijuana stocks. Said a lot of these start ups are losing money and like Scoot said, there’s plenty of product available right now and prices are coming down.

I think there’s a few established Canadian companies that are doing well but they’ve obviously been at it a lot longer.

Not saying you can’t find a niche and make some money, I’d just invest what you can afford to lose. Good luck to you.

I've known growers and, umm, those with prescriptions.

Growers' concerns have been getting and keeping a market for your product(s), and that requires that you stay up on the latest developments. From what I'm told, this is still evolving rapidly, so there's money to be made even when your product is no longer cutting edge, but this requires that you have diverse distribution channels.

My concern would be that federal legalization will create something like the beverage industry, where the independant grower is marginalized like the seller, and only big farms make big profits. But like craft beer and wine, there will always be a market for carefully cultivated product.

In the mean time, there's gold in them there bushes, and this is the wild west for growers. Make hay while the sun is shining.

Oh, and if you grow, my friends with taste say, don't use Miracle Grow or any other such chemical fertilizer, it burns the throat. Stay pure, win customers.
