Well gentlemen, 4 drafts (3.5) have come and gone, I think we can fully put some myths to bed about how our GM drafts. I had initially thought there were some tendencies we could track down like certain teams (Seattle with length/metrics) Minnesota and Cincy with H-W-S, other teams only drafting captains or certain schools heavy. 1) Reggie brings in the players he is interested in. -Clearly this one is blown to hell. Nobody we had heard about this year was picked. I had a bead on almost all our visits. I am confident saying I knew at least 20 of our 30 visits plus all of our pro days and personal campus workouts. Amari last year, Edwards this year. Karl Joseph had only spoken to our team once at the combine. Jihad said we barely talked. Khalil and Gabe did not come in for a visit in their draft year. Reggie uses tape and scouts to set his board and the visits are obviously used to double check certain things. On the flip side, a GM like Gettlemen draft 5 guys he brought in for visits (3 cb's out of 5) 2) Reggie only drafts religious players/or older players etc. -By just assuming this, you obviously are not paying attention. Reggie has taken young kids like Amari and Edwards. He took the youngest player in the draft last year in Max Valles. Clearly AGE is not a factor. I assume he has some religious players mixed in with guys who don't give a shit. Long story short: Nothing to see here. No pattern at all. Among all the old players he has taken, there is an equally as young player somewhere along the line. Over 3.5 drafts he has taken the oldest prospects at a position (Crawford/Bergy/Menelik) and the youngest (Amari/Valles/MEJ) 3) Reggie stays away from X position in Y round. -Nope. He will draft pass rushers early, WR's early, lineman anytime he wants. Again there is nothing here like other teams that we can get a read on. Some teams always take a lineman (GB) some teams always take developmental corners or QB's. We are all over the map. Pass rusher heavy? Sure. But outside of that we have gotten an OL every year. (Vadal/Feliciano/Bergy/Gabe). About all we can count on is we will likely use one pick on an OL. Add us to the same list as 28 other teams every year... 4) Reggie steers clear of character issues. -Well, Connor Cook, Jon Dowling, Mario Edwards, Stacey McGee, Shelby Harris and others disagree. If the reward outweighs the risk, Reggie will pull the trigger regardless of what type of issue a guy has... 5) We like to take injured players. -This one is probably the closest one to not being a 'myth' but I think its more happenstance and trusting his board. Sure Ball, Hayden, Karl Joseph, Watson and others have had injury history. (Carrie and Debose etc. as well) but there is not any pattern here. If anything they trust their doctors and minimize injury history on draft day. 3 years of excel spreadsheets with forty times, SPARQ scores, positions, conferences and H-W-S and there is nothing we can find out except: WE DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT WHAT REGGIE WILL DO Anyone have any other myths we hear about?
