Even if your RB1 is a beast, your RBBC still needs to be great. The Bucs had legit starters and still signed legit starters.
Well, if you think Darnold is better than the #4 QB prospect, I guess it makes sense to trade something for him. But he has used up 3 years on his rookie deal. And Carolina still has Bridgewater on their books. Just seems like a lot of assets dedicated to two meh QBs. I would rather have Mariota than both of them.
I wouldn’t expect to see any signings at all, really, until after the draft. First day of free agency = IPO. Now = Penny stocks.
It looks like we are relying on our drafting expertise to address those 2 positions. What could go wrong.
HaHa couldn't even make the Cowboys defense BTW. It's bottom of the barrel. We're drafting someone in this weak class. Vic Tafur @VicTafur · 1h The only safety the #Raiders were in on early was Rayshawn Jenkins. They’re comfortable that one of the safeties left on the FA market can come in & start. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix actually visited & might be sitting on an offer.
Looking at the timing of it, the Raiders are probably playing the slow game with Hooker's injury, waiting to see how he recovers. No need to jump in with a contract 6 months into a 9 month recovery process.
Wonder what the real story is with Sherman, Haywood and Poole. Of the three, I might like Poole the best.
Because the Raiders were over $7.6M in the red prior to FA, which they effectively covered by restructuring Littleton and Kwiatkoski, this year’s FA was always about repurposing money from players cut, restructured and traded: Brown -> Ngakoue, ‘22 5th, +$1M Williams (Agholor) -> Brown, Drake, Snead, Reddick Jackson -> Good, Jefferson, Thomas, ‘21 5th, -$570K Incognito -> Incognito, Hankins, Vickers Hudson -> ‘21 3rd, 1/2 Miller’s extension, -$2M cap space Joyner -> Morrow, Jones, James’ extension Mariota -> Mariota, Carlson, Sieg, Martin, Cotton Nassib -> Nassib, Irving, Lawson, Philon, Dickerson, +$625K
Whoops: Raiders use cap space this year to absorb Miller’s 3-year extension. Wonder how long before the Raiders’ convert Miller’s base salary into a signing bonus to create cap space. Lol Joel Corry @corryjoel 3m The Raiders used a "pay as you go" contract structure with Kolton Miller's contract extension. There isn't a signing bonus so the cash & salary cap numbers are the same each year. Miller's 2021 cap increases by $9,183,004 in the extension ($4,286,325 to $13,469,329).
That’s an odd one... I guess they can always just restructure this year’s salary to bonus if they want to rearrange the cap hits.
Yep, especially when you consider that they restructured Littleton, Kwiatkoski and Nassib to create cap room, then used cap room to extend Miller and James and trade Hudson, in part, to pay for those extensions. Lol. Pretty much confirms no more FA signings until after the draft.
At this point it makes sense to wait until after the draft. Fill your final holes. Also OTC has us with 2.6 in cap space so not a lot of choice there
Yep, they’d need to convert Miller’s salary, it seems. Raiders went from #14 in cap space to #28 with this move per OTC, with the remaining space needed to sign drafted rookies. Thus the team is currently tapped out. Its only other options are designate Hudson a post June 1 trade, cut/trade Richard, Heath, Parker, Key, Hurst, and/or rely upon roster exemptions for Carr, Richard and/or Morrow. Josh Dubow @JoshDubowAP 1m #Raiders deal with Miller increased his cap hit by about $9 million this season. Over The Cap has them with about $2.6M in cap room for 2021 right now.
