FUCK YOU DEREK CARRBAGE/Final Word on Derek Carr

I never understood why defenses always do that. Seems like it makes it so easy for most QB’s to get down field quickly.

You’re almost guaranteed to barring a QB making a bad throw(s) or a drop(s) by a receiver.
Yep, I hate prevent D.

I just want to throw something out there for the Weapons argument.

By DYAR, the Raiders had the #18 (T.Williams) and #38 (H.Renfrow) rated WRs, the #1 (D.Waller) and #14 (F.Moreau) rated TEs, and the #12 rated RB (Jacobs).

Welcome to the team Nobody....

Yep dumb strategy these days if the score is remotely close.

Yeah I’ve always wondered why teams do it.

Not every team has a Mahommes/Hill combo that statistically makes playing press man a dangerous game.

Carr ain’t the only one who pads stats that way, as much as we all know that over the years he has. Most QB’s do.

Which I don’t have an issue with, if he can get points. We have some some real good RZ years, good 2 minute years. Last year was no bueno.

Gruden needs to keep tweaking that package. Now he can add in some Mariota bootleg shit as well.

Unless he outright takes over. Which, he may wind up doing who knows.

For the same reason teams stick with mediocre QBs. It’s drilled into their brains that it’s the safe thing to do. And it probably was once upon a time. Nowadays with the rules and kickers hitting 50 yarders like nothing it’s smarter to play straight up in a lot of scenarios. Just like it’s smarter offensively to keep your foot on the gas pedal.

If you have the team that can do it. Over the years there haven’t been too many that are that skilled to pull that style off with success....

It’s a fun brand to watch though. Those types of teams lost some big games also. But also won a few. Teams I think fit what your saying....

SF when Young took over.

Minnesota with Moss, Carter, a good QB and Smith at RB.

Warner and the Greatest Show on Turf.

The Callahan Oakland Raiders.

NE when they got Moss from us for a nickel.

KC with Football Steph Curry.

All fun as hell to watch.

Eh, IMHO I don’t think the criteria of mediocre is the same as you think among some here, and NFL front offices/coaches.

I think an average offense is at such an advantage over the defense these days that you really don’t have to be an ATG offense to do it. You see passing numbers are through the roof. Carr beat his career YPA average by almost a yard and was still 9th in the league. I think it’s probably better to go for it in 4th down at least 50 percent of the time. Lay back as a defense and get rolled over in today’s league.

I was referring to trying to win with game manager QBs. I don’t think it’s really a viable option these days. Minnesota for example. You gotta be able to sling it.

Eh, I’m pretty sure that coach there doesn’t want him too. Cousins is pretty aggressive. Not an elite arm talent tho.

I think he’s more naturally aggressive than Carr. But doesn’t quite have the arm talent.

He will go mid/deep when it’s not “pre-programmed” like I think a lot of Carr’s deep throws are.

There just aren’t too many guys on the planet with the type of juice and accuracy to play that way all the time. It’s always been that way.

That’s why I like Love/Eason more than Hurts, even though five years from now Hurst might be better than those two. They have that juice. But are they dumb? Turds? Lazy? Who knows.

I think the QB has to fit the team DNA. We need a guy that’s going to be tough and scrappy getting yards. Those guys are exciting prospects in a vacuum but I really don’t see the fit with Gruden if we’re being honest. Maybe Love if he has a little ground game but I think overall Gruden needs a guy that can move around more than a good pocket passer.

I agree.

I’m posting just to note that 50+ yard FG are still not that common, and are a weapon if you have a kicker who can do it. For example, the NFL average was 4.5 attempts and 2.6 makes for each team last year. Our kicker was 0 for 2. Detroit’s kicker, however, was 7 for 8. That foot is worth its weight in gold.

Point taken. Seems like kicks that we drafted a guy in the 1st round to make started becoming routine but I’ll take your word for it.

Sign me up for that Martian!

I thought Carlson was gonna be a good one. I don't think there was any kicker worse last year?

I would spend some money on Gostkowski from New England just to stabilize the position for a couple years.

Sling it like Garrapolo and L Jackson?
