Wondering if this means Raiders are preparing to head into 2020 with Gabe Jackson at RG.
The chance that Gabe actually takes a *paycut* is slim/none. If you create space against the cap on an existing contract, it's almost always the way the Raiders restructured Hudson's contract. That is to turn base salary or non-guaranteed roster bonus into a prorated signing bonus. This just spreads the hit against multiple cap years. But this also leads to further cap liabilities (i.e. dead cap) in future years. No way the Raiders tie themselves to Gabe further. And most agents are loath to *remove* money from contracts. Not for $10mm

Jackson is a $0 cap hit if cut or traded. I have a feeling he'll be part of a draft day trade.I don’t think there’s much of a dead cap hit if we cut him. Guessing we will look for a trading partner to get some value back.
True but we’ll never know if he understood restructuring to move space around.Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
At the time it wasn't a whoopsie though. He was playing extremely well and was paid for it. The past 2 years have had him in decline, as well as injured. Unless he has a miracle bounceback, I don't see him wearing the colors this year. That 9.6 million could be used so much more efficiently to improve our team.
Another whoopsie.
its hardly a whoopsie. we can cut or trade him at 0 cost. its the "free year" for us. Could also give him the "hard line" to take a pay cut. That 9.6 million could be used so much more efficiently to improve our team.

And if we are pretty assured that Good will need to play Good for 3-5 games next year, with not just save that money? At this point even with guys signing big contracts this year he's the #10 paid OG in the NFL and makes 4 million more than Richie Incognito.
I definitely didnt see an 8 million dollar dip in quality when Denzelle Good covered for him
That math just doesnt add up especially with the amount of holes on this roster.

yep. I get that he isn't living up to his contract but until we clearly have cheaper and better options to trot out there I think he sticks. This o-line isn't as solid as everyone thinks, which is why Jackson may stick. Incognito is 38- and the odds of him playing a full year aren't great. Hudson missed a few games last year, Brown missed 5 games. We need depth on that line. And don't forget we trotted out Parker for a few games.

I would draft a guy in round 3 to groom for an interior spot.
Absolutely. Rd 4 would probably be my floor for a developmental OG if I let go of Gabe. Depends on how the draft falls, but I'm grabbing someone between #80 and #121.
