Roster competition

Calhoun has been a major disappoint. I thought he would at least give some pass rush ability off the edge but he was outplayed by an UDFA
 
Agreed on Calhoun and Cowser--they need to play only the Irvin/Mack roles only.

On Taiwan... I wouldn't be too sure about him sticking around. The Raiders ended up losing 4 STs aces this offseason--Trawick, Bates, Andre Holmes, and Nate Allen. However, the Raiders have added 2 guys who should be REALLY strong on the edges in Obi and Patterson. I expect Cowser, Calhoun, and Joseph to get reps on STs and then you have late round rookies like Luani and Lee who should be strong STs guys as well.

Meh...I don't see how we can continue to carry a player that add no value anywhere else. At least guys like Traywick and Bates could play if needed. If Jones was one of the gunners last year who was the other? Did we lose both of them? If not then Patterson is definitely the replacement for Jones.

Holmes was the other. He's gone and likely replaced by Patterson.

I can't stand to watch that guy. But he is so bad when he is on the field I have a hard time taking my eyes off of him. My hope is that both of them will get cut.
 
Lots of guys significantly improve in year 2. Looks like that's the plan at LB absent Rey Malaga. HBs right about that move.

I thought Bates filled in a couple time and didn't embarrass himself? Or was that just Traywick?

Final cuts is what I am hoping for. Every team in the league passed on Cowser when he cleared waivers and then we brought him back. That makes him the worst in the league from my point of view.

I'd rather have an Option C.

As for A or B, it's the classic case of one guy having the athletic upside, and the other having the overachiever level of effort. It's frustrating as hell.

Calhoun has to show up this offseason and learn how to play football. Otherwise, he's going to lose reps to Rudy Sunshine again.
