I look at it this way. he knows the system and can keep it going. This may be a good move. Could be a better play caller and is someone Carr trusts. Could give Carr more freedom to call his own plays and shit. Who knows he may be better situationally aware.

Honestly it does suck a bit Musgraves is gone. Will suck more if he goes to the donkeys but oh well. Lets hope this doesnt implode on us.

Musgrave probably didn't like offer Raiders

Reality for #Raiders... Let whiz kids (Downing & Jake Peetz) work their magic. And it could be magic as long as keep Mike Tice in place.

Bill Musgrave's 2 Yr Contract expired. Deserved top Coordinator $. Raiders balked at demands & promoted young coach they're very high on.

Expect Raiders promote Jake Peetz to QBs Coach. Thought has league wide interest in his services for that post. Very high on young coaches.

I'm backing Downing for HC. Someone find a tweet clarifying his feelings on Norton stat.

Oh, well if Vic says he's "hot"

Raiders promoted QBs coach Todd Downing to offensive coordinator.

It appears the Raiders let OC Bill Musgrave walk for the express purpose of promoting Downing, who is a sprightly 36 years old. Per the San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur, Downing was a "hot" coaching candidate, and had been contacted by 4-5 teams. Beginning with Detroit in 2011, Downing has been coaching quarterbacks for six years. He has never coordinated an offense. The Raiders are obviously extremely high on the work he's done with Derek Carr.

Well, now, if Vic says so.

p.s., Mark balking on paying Musgrave big $ after Carr's injury and JDR's moaning sounds like a more reasonable explanation.

Not worried about him going to Denver at all. Without a QB he's been Meh.. Don't think Denver has a QB last I saw. Even though Norton may have made it look like they have one, they dont.

Raiders saw a lot of success on offense. However, not sure any of that can be attributed to anything innovative on Musgrave's part.
I disagree. Musgrave put together one of the most diverse O in the league. His play calling and inability to get production out of Cooper, the TEs and on screen plays was just oddly frustrating time and time again.

It would be very weird if JDR lost/fired both coordinators after a 12-5 season. But, shit, Norton's such a weak link. At least have to bring somebody in who can help scheme/prepare a game-plan and help call plays and make adjustments in the booth.

I'm not broken up over this move, but I'd be lying if I said I saw this coming. Figured Norton would be on the street before Musgrave. Promoting a guy from within doesn't disrupt the continuity as much as going in a completely different direction, but I kinda wonder if this means Norton isn't going anywhere. Who knows ..., maybe Jack and Red aren't worried about disrupting the status quo, and this move means nothing with respect to changes with the defensive staff.

This is my guess, too.
