Or a tree falls on your house, or the storm surge drowns you, or the wind and water cause your house to collapse on top of you, or...
Lol, but unless you're on an island w/ no where to go, there's so much warning ahead of time w/ a hurricane! You've got days to get yer ass outta there! No one knows when a earthquake is gonna hit (plus the potential tsunami), and you've maybe got minutes to prepare for a tornado.

Let me rephrase my previous silly statement: For modern countries in the 21st century, hurricanes are most deadly for people living in coastal cities below sea level.

Yes, falling trees or really high storm surges can cause fatalities, but what made Katrina so devastating was the levees breaking and the city flooding . Loss of life could have been diminished if the entire city had been evacuated. The fact that people even have time to prepare for a major weather event like a hurricane SHOULD decrease risk of injury or death in 21st century, modern nations.

With an earthquake, there's no warning system, so you can't really "get out" before it happens. You just better hope you're someplace earthquake-safe when it happens. Plus, if it triggers a tsunami, you may only have minutes to get to higher ground. The 2011 earthquake & tsunami that hit Japan, a highly industrialized and modern country that has many safety measures in place for such events, still killed over 15,000 people.

Anyway, they all suck, so w/e
