"What’s that? Ah — Playoffs? Don’t talk about — playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?" -Jim Mora

It may be a bit early for this poll, but now that the draft is over and most of the roster is intact… playoffs? I would consider myself more on the homer side of things here @blackreign.net historically, but even I have not been sipping the Kool Aid the last 5 or so years. But i'm finally ready to homer back up and talk shit to the rest of the NFL, I think we have a playoff team. Do you?

I don't see any reason we can't have a 2 or 3 game improvement, and that would put us in the playoff picture.

The Chiefs are the biggest threat. We need to stop Kelce and the running game if we want to win the division.

Im not too worried about that Bronco's offense. And the Chargers have plenty of issues.

I think the Chiefs will be the early favorite depending on Houstons knee. But the Raiders could make noise and take it. A wildcard birth would be fine too.

Absolutely.

In true before the bullets start flying fashion, I think our defense is going to be nasty this season. Digging the continuity on the coaching staff too.

We drafted a 5 tech and Red was mentioning having 2 ILB's on the field at the same time.

Full blown 3-4 or just sub packages?

Were we not a 34 team during the Super Bowl years?

Im trying to find some photos of the Raiders defensive alignments and where we deployed people from. It would be nice to see how some of the new guys fit in exactly. #Multiple

pretty sure we will be base 3-4 but remain hybrid.

The fact they didn't draft a true 4-3 DT who can rush the passer says more 3-4 is on the way. Edwards is the only interior pass rusher on DL right now right?

I was hoping for traditional 4-3 with Irvin stacked over Smith or Mack outside. MEJ & Rankins inside… That would have been the 5 man rush off death. But the Saints snagged Rankins early.

What's the actual difference between a true 3-4 and that 4-3 hybrid that Seattle plays? Based our staff and player acquisitions I'd say we're setting up to emulate Seattle... which I think Ward fits perfectly.

That 5-2 last year with Aldon wasn't Seattle's D. I think Norton/Del Rio are concocting their own lil D here.

3 more wins, where do they come from since the draft last year:

Offense

Where we should improve:

QB: Carr (3rd year; 2nd in offense)
WR: Cooper & Roberts (2nd year on roster/in offense)
TE: Watson (2nd year on roster/in offense)
OT: KO (All Pro upgrade for weakest link)
RB: Washington (real shotgun weapon)

Where we remain thin:

LT: Penn (could wake up old)
WR: Roberts/Holmes (no true #3 WR or deep threat)
C: Feliciano (big drop off)

Defense

Where we should improve:*

Secondary: 4 new starters (Smith, Amerson, Nelson, Joseph)
Edge pass-rush: Irvin, Calhoun & 1/3 Smith > 2/3 Smith & Mayowa
5-tech bodies: Ward & Orr (coached up)

*Addition by subtraction: Lofton, Ray-Ray

Where we are thin:

Interior pass-rush: Edwards' health & Ward's ability to contribute
Inside linebacker depth: Ball's knee, James, FA fodder
5-tech depth: Edwards' health, Ward, McGee, Harris & Orr

Chargers are a bit worrisome they were not as bad as their record indicated. Injuries were their downfall. But i still think we can take em

Our schedule, with the Jags, Buca and Texans ascending, and the return of Luck, is much stronger than advertised, particularly with 5 early east coast starts.

Agreed. AFC south won't be pushover, neither will be TB
