The Raiders have a glaring need at safety. Carrie & Nate Allen should be able to contribute something, altho I wouldn't not rely on either to be the "answer" or "future" back there. Carrie MAY develop into that guy, but thats a gamble. A smart GM would consider both of these guys depth with upside. Another thing to note is that we had Mays playing decent back there and nobody bitched that he was killing us. AKA We can work with some lesser talent and keep things functional.

We have discussed a few prospects around here:

SS: Cash, Joseph, Killebrew, Bell, Kearse
FS: Ramsey, Thompson, Neal, Mills, Powell, Houston Carson, S.Davis

I personally want a player who can cover. I'm willing to sacrifice some tackling, size etc. This defense needs some sticky safeties. It's usually easier to find a run-defender / hitter in FA or late in the draft.

R.Nelson would be a great signing at this point regardless of who we draft. He is a playmaker even tho he is old. He would be a nice mentor for a young FS/SS. So drafting one doesn't rule out adding another guy like (Thurmond, Nelson, Johnson)

I doubt we wanna trade a ton of picks to move up for Jalen Ramsey. Reggie likes his picks. So we can probably assume we have no realistic shot at replacing Woodson with a another stud.

I'll start by throwing up a a Thompson video. Dude ran poorly at the combine, but has a rack of big plays in college. He could be realistic 2nd round target after that combine showing.

I see Jayron Kearse as an OLB. He doesn't have the movement at 6'4 to cover in the NFL. He could be a nice LB tho. Add some bulk and redshirt him.

Von Bell. Seems like more a FS to me? This is the genius who admitted he was a lazy tackler and coaches got on him about it during interviews. Not the brightest thing to say to your future employers. Maybe he is just a very honest guy who is learning, maybe he is #dump.

The ONLY reason Im not dumping this dude off my board is bc McShay LOVES his game. He has called him on of the better coverage players in this draft. Again, I can live with poor tackling if our FS can stick like glue to a pass catcher. Im sick of seeing RB's and TE's run buck wild on this defense.

Im starting to wonder if this guy even make's it to the Raiders 2nd round pick. Probably not at this point. Im hoping Thompson or Joseph are our 2nd round pick. Immediate contributors.

Another highly athletic guy. Looks to be a Zone player who can fit the run.

He seems like he was more than solid in run support so I'd lean toward him being "honest". It's definitely a tactic some people use in interviews to give the impression of integrity. I like his playmaking enough to take the flyer.

Why not just take both the Ohio State safeties and call it a day...?

As a Michigan fan, yuck. As a Raiders fan… it wouldn't kill me. Im all for any defender who can cover in the NFL. I do think Carrie will be an asset. We could likely pair him with a sure tackler on early downs and platoon him. Same with Allen for that matter. I don't wanna see Allen or Carrie stopping the run.

At the very least, I hope Reggie burns one of the first 3 picks on a starter back there. Hopefully a ball hawking coverage FS.

Here a big hitter highlight tape (more fun to watch than game tapes haha)

THE BREW

I loves me Jalen Mills.

slot corner/FS day one.

looks like there should be some good options in Rd 2 here. I think we still need to bring in a vet to give us flexibility and keep us from reaching just because it's such a need.
