The Raiders have a glaring need at safety. Carrie & Nate Allen should be able to contribute something, altho I wouldn't not rely on either to be the "answer" or "future" back there. Carrie MAY develop into that guy, but thats a gamble. A smart GM would consider both of these guys depth with upside. Another thing to note is that we had Mays playing decent back there and nobody bitched that he was killing us. AKA We can work with some lesser talent and keep things functional.
We have discussed a few prospects around here:
SS: Cash, Joseph, Killebrew, Bell, Kearse
FS: Ramsey, Thompson, Neal, Mills, Powell, Houston Carson, S.Davis
I personally want a player who can cover. I'm willing to sacrifice some tackling, size etc. This defense needs some sticky safeties. It's usually easier to find a run-defender / hitter in FA or late in the draft.
R.Nelson would be a great signing at this point regardless of who we draft. He is a playmaker even tho he is old. He would be a nice mentor for a young FS/SS. So drafting one doesn't rule out adding another guy like (Thurmond, Nelson, Johnson)
I doubt we wanna trade a ton of picks to move up for Jalen Ramsey. Reggie likes his picks. So we can probably assume we have no realistic shot at replacing Woodson with a another stud.
I'll start by throwing up a a Thompson video. Dude ran poorly at the combine, but has a rack of big plays in college. He could be realistic 2nd round target after that combine showing.
